Sculpted from scratch using FIMO Polymer clay, around a wire armature, using a 'series' baking method of building up the detail in layer after layer, solidifying each one before sculpting further detail on top. Second ever attempt at a facial likeness, and although far from perfect, this turned out much better than my last one. This was made as a birthday present for someone, so I had a bit of a deadline; if I had more time I would have liked to put more into sanding, filing and smoothing the surfaces of the clothes and skin to give a cleaner feel to the model. As it is, it doesn't stand up well to very close inspection, but I'm quite happy with the overall look. I also underestimated how long the painting would take. Took me ages just trying to get the skin tone looking natural, and then there was a whole lot of detail on the t-shirt design, etc. Didn't help that I was using some really rubbish cheapo paints (poor student budget!). In future I'd like to experiment with airbrushes and higher quality paints to create more realistic, cleaner finishes. ![]() |
