Continuing my Disney figure series, each with my own spin on their classic story and look I introduce the Princess Aurora from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Princess Aurora hails from the small Kingdom of Perrault, nestled in a valley surrounded by dense forests and tall mountains. Beloved by her Kingdom for her grace and kindness, Aurora’s beauty however was famed throughout the surrounding lands, earning her the attention of many admirers eager for her hand in marriage. Unfortunately in the surrounding forests lurked one who was jealous of Aurora’s beauty, for they had once been the fairest in the land many, many years ago, until they had lost that title to another. It was on the eve of Aurora’s 18th birthday that a great ball was thrown in her honour. The whole Kingdom was in attendance and there was much feasting, dancing, merriment and plenty of suitors for the Princess. As the party progressed into the night, Aurora suggested the game of hide and seek with her guests, she will hide first. And so off she ran, up spiral stair cases and down long corridors looking for the perfect hiding place. In a tiny room in top of the east turret Aurora stumbled across an old woman in a cloak and hood, sat over a spinning wheel, humming as she spun. Curious, the Princess approached, watching the wheel spin and spin, round and round, whirring and clicking as it spun, the spindle glinting silver in the light of a flickering torch. A small croaking voice from beneath the hood told her to not be scared, just reach out and touch it. In a trance, the Princess reached out a slender hand towards the spindle, and pressed her finger onto its point. The needle pierced her skin, and a trickle of scarlet ran down its length. With a gasp, Aurora collapsed to the floor, limp and motionless. At that moment a group of guests, burst into the room to find The Hag, holding the bloodied spindle, cackling manically over the prone form of the Princess. In shock guests watched on in horror as The Hag vanished in a swirl of green and purple smoke. It was then that a menacing, cackling voice rung out throughout the whole Chateau: “You fools who idolize beauty above all else, forgot that I was once the fairest of them all. And so I shall be again, you mark these words, you will remember me. As for the Princess that you all love so much, forever and a day your beautiful Princess will sleep an ageless sleep from which she cannot be awakened, so that you can always gaze upon the lovely face, but of what use is a Sleeping Beauty!?” And so with heavy hearts, Aurora was taken to her chambers by her grieving Father and Mother and laid on her bed, surrounded by garlands of roses. Messengers were sent to the four corners of the Realm looking for a way to break the curse as the Kingdom waits. I hope you guys like her, I am so happy with how she turned out. She is in pink because Elsa, Jasmine and Yensid are all in bluish shades. However as a little nod to the "make it pink, make it blue" from the film, her dress is painted with iridescent paint that shimmers blue under light. Thanks for looking. **UPDATE** New Picture ![]() |
