The Terrigen Bomb released its Mist (*ahem, convenient plot device) which swirled through the northern US, and across the great state of Michigan. In doing so, unsuspecting English teacher Evin Reed, unaware of the tiny sliver of Inhuman DNA swimming in his genes, was surrounded in a cocoon and woke up in a body that is now powered by (and able to manipulate) green light. There are a whole lot of fancy details about it, enough to fill a few pages of a Marvel Encyclopedia (which roamed the earth before the Internet caused them to become extinct). Suffice it to say, Evin has a super strong & durable body and can sense & control green light on a photonic level when he's close enough to it. So of course, he's going to use these powers as a street level crime fighter in Detroit, unaware that at any moment the Inhumans or some other alien race could take an interest in him. Until then, he will take his Black Panther like physique, cloak it in green shades typically only seen in Model Masters and Game Color paints, and convert the green light emanating from glow sticks into beam-blades hot and sharp enough to cut through the seamy underbelly of the Motor City. All he needs is a superhero name, and as any English teacher would, Evin took his real name, which always looked cool spelled backwards, and created a bacronym that would strike fear in the hearts of criminals: they will now have to worry about the Nexus of Intense Verdant Energy. In other words, look out for NIVE!*
