When Hasbro released the comic series Loki, I knew that was the perfect head for a classic John Buscema Loki. And with a few mods, I could make the body work too. Time to retire the Toybiz one! The leg articulation problem was fixed with cut joints. The scale mail was made row by row, waiting a few hours for it to get dry, and then sanding it before attempting the next row. Well, since I have to work for a living too, it took me more than a month to finish that. One thing is for certain...I won't be able to see any more scales in front of me for, like, the next 5 to 10 years. :P The Doc Samson’s bootcuffs were still there, and after sanding them down, I’ve realized that I needed an anatomy lesson to sculpt the muscles. And more: I’ve found out one leg is shorter than the other (below the knee). Not so noticeable when the bootcuffs were on, but I’ve disguised that a little. I’ve also sanded and sculpted the entire lower arm plus gloves (they didn’t cover the fingers). I’ve tried to do a waist swivel, but after sawing his body I’ve found out the ab articulation goes below the waist line, destroying my plans. And last but not least: that piece of cloth around his neck. For that I’ve tried to do an eight point star. But how to divide a circumference in 8 equal pieces using a compass? I’ve drawn a polygon inside, divided it into triangles, and then the triangles were split in half. I’ve found the angle using sine, and tangent, and then remembered the formula that would give me the opening I would need to use with the compass based on it. Now with this knowledge I was able to do an internal circle, divided in 16 parts to finish the inside points. Phew! That wasn’t so difficult at school. Needless to say I’m an engineer. :p ![]() |
