Another 3D printed action figure inspired by Skyrim (after many gear mods)... This one took a bit longer and an extra test print to have everything working properly, but most things worked as intended right away which was nice considering all the moving parts. All the gear on her back can be removed or interchanged. She can hold/carry most of the weapons I've printed through shapeways so far. 2 handed weapons can be clipped on her back and most 1 handed swords fit into her rolled up sleeping back on her back or on her leg where the knife is. The armor plate on her leg swings freely up and down and doesn't hinder articulation and the straps for her shoulder armor are flexible enough to let her arm push it up too. I tried to do more things with washes and dry brushing some of which kinda worked, and some not so, live and learn. On the downside, shapeways forgot to polish this one so her surface finish is a bit rougher. Kinda works for the leather and fur parts but not so well for her skin. They're printing me a new one for free but alas, I'm done! She was fun so I'll probably be doing a few more fantasy figures next... ![]() |

Beyond that you don't need any specific 3D printing app ...unless you print at home in which case your 3D printer would come with an app that lets you position, rotate and scale the parts for printing, but since they're printed online through shapeways, I just have to upload them.
I did sculpt her fur in a MOTUC-esque style in the hopes it would blend in better with them
One day I want to do a full 3D but don't know how to make the joints work. are joints printed in a different material?
It's all printed in the same material as to not require any glue or anything beyond plugging body parts and ball joints together.
I've ordered a 3D printer that should arrive in a month or 2 so I'll soon enough learn to make new confused facial expressions, but even then the technology of my printer will be very different from what shapeways uses.
