I'm a big fan of Marvel's WW2 mythos, and I have several Golden Age characters planned and in progress. The Golden Age Vision is one of the most visually striking. A true product of the 40's, his look was very outlandish and inconsistently colored (and inconsistently drawn). Vision was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Marvel Mystery Comics #13 (Nov. 1940). He had a brief revival in Avengers #97 by Roy Thomas, and a more recent revival in Invaders Now!

For the uninitiated... some excerpts from biographies of the Golden Age Vision:

"The Golden Age Vision, also known as Aarkus, is an alien law enforcement officer from a dimension called Smokeworld. While Aarkus is looking for a suitable place to exile a prisoner, he is accidentally contacted by an Earth scientist named Markham Erickson. Leaving the prisoner on the planet Jupiter, Aarkus accepts Erickson's invitation to fight crime on Earth. Aarkus does so for several years, although during World War II is briefly manipulated by the Axis powers into fighting the Allies. The superhero team the Invaders, however, manage to help Aarkus realize his mistake.

Aarkus and his people came to Earth-616 from another dimension to answer their true calling in life, which was to help Cosmic Cubes all over the Universe gain sentience. Aarkus was assigned to be the caretaker and a midwife of sorts to the Cosmic Cubes of Earth. Aarkus became distracted from his mission when World War II broke out, which he fought in as both a member of The Axis and The Allies.

The Vision can generate illusory images of himself; fly; generate ice and extreme cold; and teleport wherever there is smoke."

Thanks! I was stuck trying to do a "flame off" Toro, but recently decided on a solid "flame on" recipe - so he's climbing the charts! Someday I'll do a Jim Hammond and Toro without flames though.
