I hadn't seen anyone really tackle these guys in an interesting way, so when I saw them on shelves I knew I had to customize them up.

I painted them with the same skin tones as my other figures, which I like much more than the tones they chose for the 2012 line. However, they felt a bit naked... so I added some wrist bands and knee pads and belts made out of real leather.

The weapons for Raph are just painted up a bit with some lines drawn on to make them look like real wood. Mikey's have real chains added to them. The bo that comes with Don wasn't great, so I gave him grown up Donatello's blade bo and cut off the blade. As for Leo, well, I lost his wooden swords :-/ So instead I decided to give him the smaller Katanas that come with grown up Leo. Little Leo has graduated to real weapons just a little bit faster than his brothers, so it all makes sense.

As always, I used acrylic paint on the figures and sealed them up with a clear coat of sealant.

Cowabunga!

Awesome job! Congrats!
What paint did you used? Plastic ones?
Where can I find leather like the one used in belts?

Michael's is your best friend when it comes to supplies. They have the leather, chains and paints that I use. The paint is acrylic paint that comes out of a tube and I usually mix my own colors. Reeves Acrylic Painting Sets is a good place to start. You get a bunch of different colors and some supplies and it's usually pretty cheap, like $15 or so.

The biggest advice I have for you is to get yourself some sand paper (coarse and fine) from a hardware store and make sure to sand the areas that move. These 2012 turtles especially tend to have the paint crack and rub off at the joints and sanding them helps tremendously, but that same process works for any figure you're customizing.

The final tip I have for you is to watch some Youtube videos of others customizing figures. Seeing the techniques in action is a great way to learn how to do little things like shading, prepping, etc. Good luck!

Thanks my friend! Helped me a lot! Here in Brazil is difficult to find paints with great quality and the right pigment.
I only find normal acrilic ones. But that´s fine.

I bought the 4 turtles and will customize with your ideas!
My main dificult is to create the Donatello´s skin tone! I will not to move the arms or legs, put them just for show-room =).
Im afraid use the sandpaper and spoil the figurine :/ but I will make a shot!

Regards,
Rodrigo

They're pretty tough. Just make sure you don't rub them too much. Just enough so that the paint applies. Steel wool also works too and might be the best thing to start with if you're just beginning. Good luck, my friend. Let me know if you need anymore help.
