MYTHIC MIGHT. No other character embodies this term like the almighty Kratos. Once a mortal he became a god and on his quest for vengeance he found death and redemption.Once Kratos had slayed Ares the god of war he then took up the mantle for himself and became the new god of war.Still that wasnt enough for Kratos to quench his thirst for revenge against the gods of olympus,so he set out to destroy the gods who had betrayed him.One by one the gods fell under Kratos'blades until he eventually slayed the king of the gods himself Zeus.Having fulfilled his quest for revenge Kratos would turn his own blade on himself to finally end his life filled with the tormenting nightmares of his past.
Kratos was made using various wwe figures and combined with pieces from neca Kratos based on the god of war videogame.The torso is a wwe basic Mason Ryan,with the head and arms picked from neca Kratos.The legs are from a wwe elite HHH with Von Erich shins,and modified feet from neca Kratos.A lot of cutting and dremmeling was needed to get the shin guards to fit just right and the back of the legs were finished up using cut vinyl and a few pieces of craft chain.THE neca kratos head and arms fit perfectly on the wwe torso so i just decided to switch the hands out for wwe hands,and gained much better articulation and posability.
Many many hours went into the paint job on this figure starting with the ashy skin tone.Ifirst brushed on a dark grey base over the entire figure,then drybrushed a lighter grey,and eventually white.I custom mixed the red color for the tattoo,hand painted and then finished it off with a very light white drybrush.I noticed that in the actual game Kratos' different armor pieces have varying shades of gold,copper,and silver so i wanted to match that to this figure as well.I painted the belt,gauntlets,and shin guards flat black,then brushed in some copper,and finally silver for the chains.The same technique was used for the fleece and blades only i brushed on some gold on top of the black for those pieces.
I wanted to do something else to set this custom Kratos apart from the factory release so i opted to create a one of a kind uber manly cloth of pure awesomeness.(props to loosecollector for giving us a way to say skirt without making ourselves blush).For the leather strap pieces i used cut vinyl into strips and and added some craft rings to finish the effect.For the cloth itself i used some sheer fabric that matched his colors very well,and cut out the pattern to make it look very worn and weathered as in the game.To finish the look i cut out a stencil and sprayed on a few light coats of gold to create the distinctive greek pattern that Kratos has always worn proudly on his attire.
That pretty much sums it up for this custom Kratos, and i would like to say good luck to all who participate in this custom contest.I really love this genre and the theme of this contest has me very curious and excited to see what all of the other realmers have up their sleeves for this one.
