After spending 5 years abroad, Spider-Man's clone, Ben Reilly, returned to New York only to find he was the real Peter Parker all along! After a brief stint as Scarlet Spider Ben took over as New York's resident web slinger.

The clone saga and ensuing madness is one of my earliest and fondest memories of comic books. As a child I didn't know why there was a new Spider-Man, but I liked it! I've been aching for a good Spider-Ben for years and finally worked up the courage to make one.

I was going for a beefier "90s" look and chose my parts accordingly. I used a ROML Archangel as the base because it was blue and to reduce paint rub showing, but any ML buck body will do. I took hands and lower legs from a ROML Scarlet Spider, web shooters from Hasbro's Ben Reilly, and feet & head from an Ultimate Spidey.

Some plastic was removed from the hips to allow for better range of motion, and all the webs were sculpted. Finally, I sculpted on the spider logo. Admittedly, I changed the logo a little bit, keeping the entire spider on his chest, rather than letting it go over his shoulders.

Several layers of paint and washes finally achieved the colors I was looking for.

I don't know the exact number of hours, but I worked on this for about a week and a half.

Hope you enjoy and please leave any and all comments or critiques!!

Nice work!!! I use top coat to get rid of the shine. BTW how did you etch the weblines...

I actually sculpted the webs. I used Ave's fix-it sculpt, which cures in about 4 hours, so I would sculpt a section, wait for it to cure, then sculpt some more. It took awhile, but the results were worth it. I have since decided to draw the lines on similar customs using a fine tip Gundam marker.

That is a great looking Ben Reilly Spider-Man I love the sculpted lines. I really enjoyed the Ben Reilly storyline as well. One question though have you thought about using a dullcote clear? I find that a good dullcote really helps the paint work look more like cloth

thanks for the kind words. A co-worker had mentioned top coat, but I never thought of a dullcote. I'm going to have to try that. I have noticed that the figures seem "shiny."

I'm glad I'm not the only one likes to mix that head with the ML and S-MC figs. I think it works very well, and actually looks better than it does on the original figs.
