If you blinked just before Flashpoint you may've missed Anna Fortune. Anna first appeared to help the JSA All-Stars against Johnny Sorrow and the King of Tears. She said she was sent by Doctor Fate because he'd once helped her out of a jam. Not too much was ever revealed about Anna Fortune because just a year after her first appearance the New 52 eliminated just about all of the JSA and their legacy characters. A tragic loss IMO. "Anna is able to perform spellcraft both innate and aided by items. A few Anna can cast on her own, like flight and healing, but others she has stored in "spellcasings" which she fires from a launcher on her gauntlet. This allows her to cast spells, possibly obtained from other magic users, that she couldn't normally use, but the spells in the casings cannot be reused and thus come in limited quantity, especially powerful spells which she may only have one of." Though little is known about her, she has confessed to being "either twenty-six or a hundred and eighty-seven," which would make her place of origin from the 1850's or so. And since the JSA All-Stars were all legacy characters (descendants of other DC characters) I've always assumed she is somehow an ancestor to JLA villain Amos Fortune, though the exact details were never revealed. Anna was made using a DCUC Star Sapphire Wonder Woman as a base and an Abby Chase head. Her cape came from a Marvel Legends Hope Summers figure. Everything else was either sculpted (gauntlets, bustier) or random fodder parts. Really wanted the challenge of trying to put together someone that required a lot of little parts for accuracy. And although I'm not a huge fan of steampunk, I thought she had a pretty cool look to her. Like many other characters that joined the JSA around that period, I think Anna had a lot of unrealized potential that was sadly lost in the name of 'modernization'. But I'm very happy to add her to my own JSA collection. Since she's a bit obscure I included some images of her. But even though she may be obscure, she still had more appearances than the version of Batzarro Mattel is giving fans. But I digress... Thanks for looking! ![]() |
