Hello fellow Realmers! This Toad Custom action figure is part of a 'Brotherhood of Evil Mutants' set I made a little while back. I wanted to do my own take on the original/founding members of The Brotherhood based on their first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #4, but with some freedom taken with their "looks". This Toad was made using a ML Gambit body, and a modified DCU Trigon head. The hair is and costume details are sculpted, and I sculpted over his abdomen to give him a more solidified "hunched" look. Since the photos were taken I touched up the paint a bit, as I've discovered a high watt light-build (200 watt) and a glance at the figure in direct sunlight helps to make sure there aren't any missed spots or uneven skin-tones. This was before I had discovered Aves-Super White-Apoxy (recently realized I was not using regular Aves), so all of the sculpting with this was done with Kneadatite Green stuff. Hope you guys like him!

One more thing about the Quasimodo costume as it is colored and sculpted here. With the Medieval vaulted collar and exaggerated elf shoes, you really do get the impression of the Toad as a sort of the Court Jester of the group. I think that that was the original intention of him in this group. Hence the Jester-like look. I think he took a much darker, more sardonic turn somewhere in his conception. And in an effort to make him a more useful member they made him more violent. Sort of creeping up the wall, sneaking around and striking without warning. Davey captures this part of his character quite nicely. Great job, Mr. Blaze!!!

I have this figure. And I have to say that pictures do not do it justice. It is another brilliant Davey Blaze masterpiece. Here is the Toad as he always should have been portrayed. It is an ideal version of the Toad very carefully detailed, posed and sculpted by Davey Blaze! You are first drawn in by the posture and attitude of the body language. He very much looks like he is either about to leap into the air or has just landed. Then the facial expression is just magnificently vivid here! For such a loathsome little spud of a character, I would have to say that this is Davey's most perfectly realized figure. The head and face on this one is so perfectly sculpted and painted that you almost expect him to come to life, cock his head and go hopping away into malicious mischief. It may be the most life-like and true to character face I have ever seen on any custom figure ever. The rest of the body is also finely sculpted and highly detailed. The Quasimodo costume really has the look that someone spent a lot of time working on it. The flapping collar around the neck, the belt tied up too tightly, the hunched over posture,.. the elf like, over-sized shoes,... one rarely encounters such highly detailed workmanship in a custom figure. Just in little things like the way the fingers on each hand is posed,.. it really tells of extreme love and dedication put in by the artist. I mean, just the way that left hand is posed,... I've never seen another hand posed like that. This Toad really IS a unique individual. Again I would have to say that this is Davey Blaze's best overall figure,.. so far.

Thanks That's just what I was going for (at least a subtle resemblance)! I always thought that the Lon Chaney portrayal of Quasimodo must have been a big inspiration for Toad when he was first created. I'm not sure if it was or wasn't, but I always thought it seemed that way because of Toad's body shape, the way he dresses and the way he looked when he jumped around in the earlier X-Men comics. I'm glad you think the look works!
