The week of fixing my regrets continues. I hated how my original Thor in Destroyer armor came out and it cost me an actual Destroyer figure as a base. Thankfully it sold.
So I wanted a shot at fixing what went wrong but didn't have another Destroyer. I did have a Thorbuster Iron Man though. So I started with that base. I ripped off all of the upper torso armor and head. I used a cast Destroyer head from Casting Cave. I re-sculpted the upper torso. I then added features to make him look more "Thor-like."
So I sculpted armor plates to the chest, and added more bulk to the sides of the helmet where I attached the helmet wings from a Thor figure. I used a Thor cape from the same figure. I sculpted the belt to feature the Thor "T" logo, since his belt gives him additional power in Norse myth. Plus I always regretted not doing that on my previous version.
I then primed the whole thing black. Then came the layers, which felt like they'd never end. It was black on top of silver, on top of chrome, on top of gunmetal, etc. Drybrushing and washes galore. I painted the cape a dark red and added black washes and drybrushing over it. I wanted to make the armor look lived in. Like he'd put it all on for serious stuff and then back in the vault when he was done. The guy is busy and doesn't have time to clean this stuff and its not like its used frequently anyway.
So the last thing I did was add chrome highlights to the chest plates, boots, belt, etc. I chromed his eyes and then used a clear red Tamiya paint over them so that the light reflects off of it and they look like they glow under a display case light.
The "T" belt buckle was painted with a golden bronze color, to give it a little more detail and stand out.
