First of all: sorry for the poor quality pictures. I had to take them with my phone and this was the best I could do with it!

Every fan boy knows how awesome Batman the Animated Series is but what we don't understand is why we haven't got a decent fully articulated action figure of him in 6 inch scale. Other Realmer's decided to fix this problem and have done some fantastic versions of him (which you really need to check out when your finished here!) Thus my ambitions to create my own were fueled!

The base body?
A DCUC silver Flash. I'm afraid non of his features survived my brutal dremelling, sanding and sculpting but if we are going to do this, we need to do it properly, right? As I love to pose these lil' critters, all articulation was retained. The lower arms however were removed and replaced with ball joints at the elbow so as not to interrupt the smooth animated look of his shoulders and arms. His hands were also given ball joints, painstakingly inserted into Flash's original left hand. The same was done to a spare grasping right hand as Flash originally had a fist sporting a Lantern ring. Not exactly the look we're going for here! The belt is made from spare rubber scavenged off an ML Moon Knight's cape. He didn't mind.

Head?
Like the body, both the Bruce Wayne and Batman heads are original sculpts by myself done using black and green Milliput. I do plan to re-do the Wayne head though as right now it looks nothing like him! However, it does serve to show what kind of accessories I would want from a collector's version of the figure.

Paints?
Acrylics and flat grey spray paint.

Cape?
After some experiments I decided to make his cloak out of a lightweight blue material that I picked up from a fabric store. After spraying it black on one side (to match the dark Knight's onscreen appearance) I wired it for poseability.

Where does he get those wonderful toys?
His accessories include:
* Alternate Bruce Wayne head
* Batarang
* Grapnel Gun
* Gas Mask
* Batarang with Batline

All were hand sculpted and follow as closely as possible (for a novice like me anyway!) the design set out in the Animated Series. I paused many a frame on my DVD collection for reference. Yes, I know I'm a nerd so stop judging me!

And the stand?
The stand was built by myself from cardboard and Milliput. As I like things to be useful as well as pretty, I installed a hidden draw made from an old spear mints packet so all Batman's accessories could be kept safe inside when not in use. I then sculpted the name plate which doubles as a handle for the draw. It was painted to resemble the background artwork featured in the show.

What did you learn?
Two things really. 1: patience makes perfect (well...almost) and 2: All the hard work, hours of pain and aggravation are all totally worth it when you end up with your childhood dream action figure, standing ever vigilant on your DVD cabinet!

Thanks to everyone for your praise for Animated Batman! I know if he could, he'd narrow his eyes and begrudgingly say to you with Kevin Conroy's gruff voice "Thanks."
