Just as Kal-El was the last survivor of Krypton (for a little while anyway), Jan Arrah truly is the last son of the planet Trom. Jan originally sought out the Legion of Super-Heroes to help him capture and bring to justice the being responsible for his homeworld's demise: the space pirate Roxxas. After accomplishing this mission successfully, Jan adopted the name Element Lad due to his ability to transmute chemical elements, i.e. turn lead into gold, oxygen into carbon, etc.. and joined the Legion as one of their longest lasting and most enduring members. I have always been a big fan of Element Lad. I love the LoSH, and their original run is still, by far, their greatest adventures ever! With a soft spot for the original costumes (many of them designed by one of the greatest artists EVER, Curt Swan) I decided it was time to add Jan to my golden-age Legion of Super-Heroes collection. -Element Lad started out as a DC Direct Star Boy. -I removed the cape and sculpted a belt around his waist. -I completely repainted his entire body using Tamiya Acrylics. Although I know his hair was much longer in his original appearance, I really liked the way it looked as I tested the "blonde" color on his head. I decided to leave it that way. Element Lad has always been an integral part of the Legion of Super-Heroes, and I have always enjoyed reading about his exploits. He now holds an eternal spot on my shelf as a member of the Golden-age Legion. Enjoy! ![]() |
