Nightwing - Movie Style (Batman - Movie Style) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:41481
Name:Nightwing - Movie Style
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Batman - Movie Style
Creator:Xysma Warhorse
Date Added:August 4, 2012
Base Figure:Batman
Height:6.00 inches
I used TDKR Batman as the base, Blake head, Daredevil nunchuk holster... I sanded off the bat symbol, made a few fighting sticks and painted. I didn't want to change the suit much, I wanted this Nightwing to be a natural progression given the events of the movie. Anyway, I am happy with how he turned out.

Simply awesome. How the heck did you find a John Blake in general, let alone an extra to do a custom with?! haha. A lot of people seem to be going with the idea that Blake would become Nightwing, but I was thinking Robin, as was my friends who watched it with me. Its certainly an interesting topic for discussion.

I think he'll become Robin, they did hint at that in the movie when the lady said she liked his middle name, Robin (or something to that effect). As far as the head goes, I have yet to see a Blake figure on the pegs, but the guys I am doing all these TDK figures for came up with three Blake heads from somewhere. I've made a cop uniform Blake, nightwing, and now I am working on a Robin.

First off: GREAT CUSTOM!

Secondly: Throughout the entire trilogy one of the main themes is that the SYMBOL (BATman) is more important than the man. "I can be everlasting", "Not who I am underneath..." blah blah blah and about 50 other non-quotable references from TDKR because I only saw it once...but they were there.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Nolan was suggesting (even by the "Robin" bit) that he would go on to be the natural successor as Batman...as Richard Grayson (ROBIN) was/is. It's Nolan's way of skimming over the whole "Robin" (green tights) angle while still acknowledging the heart of the character as a "young kid who tags along" and takes up the cowl.

I know people are going to argue me on this one and that's totally cool. Until the Bluray commentary I guess we'll just have to use our imaginations

I agree - it's about Batman's legacy, that the persona and the symbol of Batman transcends the person behind the mask, and that anybody - given the right training, equipment and mindset - should be able to step into Bruce's shoes and inherit that legacy. It's likely that John Blake would go on to be a different version of Batman, so it bypasses the "kid sidekick" stage while acknowledging that aspect of the comics. Giving him the first name "Robin" was a good nod, if slightly clumsy, but it also implies he won't call himself "Robin" when he goes about fighting crime - which leaves "Batman", or "Nightwing".

Thanks Necro, I started with a deep blue, but it didn't look right so I went back over everything with a metallic blue, I think it works. I really wanted this and the Robin figure I am working on to look like Blake had adapted the suits Bruce left him, but without Bruce's resources I also wanted them to look like Blake did the mods himself.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the first thing I did with this head for this custom and my upcoming Robin custom was to fix those goofy Howdy-Doody ears. If like me, they drive you nuts, it's a simple fix, carefully cut behind the ear in two cut, one parallel to the head, one to the ear, cutting out a small wedge from behind the ear, then dab on a bit of glue (using a brush is best) then clamp the ears down to the head, and you've got a blake head that doesn't look like so silly.
