I decided to pick up the Marvel Select Ironman MK6 as I thought it be uber nice to have in my growing collection of Marvel Stuff only to be majorly dissapointed. On opened inspection i realised this figure is seriously incorrect and majorly flawed even though he look somewhat like the movie version he was absolutley in accurate.I decided I am going to fix this guy up completey and repaint the figure and mod no matter what as I wanted to feel like i wasnt ripped off.

In this listed order is what i did
1) Sanded every nook and cranny for a smoother finish as most areas were rough as guts and very poorly painted.

2) removed all parts and seperated the chest peice which is removable if you boil it in some water. Then cut a V shape in the top section.

3) extended the ball joint for teh head by about 4mm , to my surprise it actually worked and gave it better proportions.

4) Cut and trimmed the hip swivel joints so his legs could spread out better(nothing gay) and be more posable .

5) The head was missing the faceplate holes on his forehead sand the side of the cheeks .So i added those with a thread remover.

6) The chest was retooled to fit better and I cut away the major flawed upper chest piece which originally made the figure look like he was wearing an American football uniform. Allthough it was cut not exactly accurate it looks more in proportion and now we can see the detail on the neck sculpt.

7) once i was happy with the structural look and performance of limb movements it was time for a complete repaint.

Paint was done in this order

Sprayed undercoat of Metallic Silver , then sprayed body with Mica Red, then sprayed it with Clear Red for a deeper finish, then sprayed the gold parts. Then finished it with a gloss clear coat . Then completed the detail work afterwards.

Well thats it , I hope youu guys like this and all feedback is welcomed. Let me know if you think this looks better .

Cheers

Really inspired with this! got mine also hip trimmed! btw I also have an issue with tamiya spray cans, mine also get tacky / sticky like (King Louis) when I repainted ML Ultron baf.

process:
washed and dried with soapy water.
directly sprayed with tamiya spray cans (chrome silver)
after spraying, it slowly dries and very happy with the result.

after few more minutes it became tacky (except the body) any advice and help? thanks!

Wow! I wish I could do the same to my Ironmen, I once tried Tamiya lacquer paints on my 6 inch Mark V and even used a tamiya primer, followed by gloss black per instructions on the can before using metallic silver, but the shoulder pads went tacky and and never really tried. What gives maybe the kind Sirs reading this can give me advise.

thanks for yor comments dude, I think the problem you had was that you don't really need to apply primer, gloss black then silver . I applied the silver directly and it stuck straight away .I usually let the paint dry between coast so it doenst go tacky , the less paint you use on a coat is better . I reckon you should give it another try man - you can strip your previous paint with methylated spirits and a bit of turpentine , then you can start over -- cheers man.

Primers I find usually ruin the coat as you need to let them dry for about a week before you can use them and most of the time its unnecessry.

This looks awesome!! I may have asked you in your last repaint, but do you spray with an airbrush, or do you buy the colors in spray cans? Tamiya Silver is like $16 a can at my local hobby shop!!

thanks man , yeah I use the spray cans , metallic silver is the best colour to use for that bright metallic shine - I can't recommend it enough , if use a grey base and I use the Mica Red over the top the effect is dull -- it can be xpensive but the whole can isnt used, the silver is also good for doing detail work too , I spray a small amount onto use newspaper and go over over panels, and gears sometimes.
