Tarantula (Spider-Man) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:3640
Name:Tarantula
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Spider-Man
Creator:LWes
Date Added:August 17, 2007
Base Figure:Bullseye
Height:6.00 inches
Here's another one of Spider-Man's enemies: Tarantula!
I never much cared for him in the comics, but I had to make him nonetheless.
Used a Bullseye body and for the head, I modified a head from a 5-inch Zorro figure. When I saw the figure on a flea market, I knew right away that the head would be great for my Tarantula. Though, I didn't think about the fact that Zorro's mask covered his nose, while Tarantula's mask doesn't, so I had to cut it off and give him the nose of a Mr Fantastic, it worked out fine.
Those ribbons on the back of his mask are from a 5-inch Psylocke figure.

It was a pain to paint him, especially the insigna, but I really like the outcome and think it's a pretty cool figure.
What do you guys think? Thanks for looking!

Ditto
Always liked Tarantula - and I'm a sucker for black n red color scheme, Zorro-style bandana and toe blades
Right on Guido!

Awesome custom. He looks completely accurate. And D.E. Samurai- right on! I know I'm in the minority here, but I actually like the Tarantula!

Dude, I have been working on a Tarantula the SAME way you are for the last three or four months. But with work and crud I hardly get a chance to customize anymore. I just did a RED SKULL (you just did too) and an awesome Cyclops. but other then that I think you will be interested to know I am doing a Spider-lizard custom from the time Peter turned into the lizard. Also as you may have seen on the WIP of mine I have started a Kraven, Peter and MJ. I'm super glad that I'm not the only Spidey super fan here. Awesome work in this custom man. might use an idea or two of yours. Keep up the great work.
P.S. The Rose and Chameleon were great too.

That is a really clean paint job! Great choice on the base figure, too. I also dig his "pointy new choos, mang!"

Sure, I can do that. Just let me know what characters you want, and I'll check for them. The book came out in 36 issues from 1990-1993, so characters newer than that are obviously not in it, but several characters from '90-'93 are, as well as older ones of course. I think it's a total of 800+ characters.

Thanks guys!
Evan: Those pictures are from The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Master Edition v3.
I downloaded the whole thing from DC++
It has a whole lot of characters in it so it's great to use as reference pictures. But while some characters are great to look at to see details and such, others look like crud.
I always look through all the comics each character has appeared in to take out reference pictures, but those Handbook pictures are always a good start.

That's awesome work! I have one of those Zorro figures too and thought about doing Tarantula, but now that you mention the nose I may wait for a different head. I think transplanting a nose is beyond my skill
Excellent job!!
