General Spidrax (Misc) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:35577
Name:General Spidrax
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Misc
Creator:hussapocalypse
Date Added:January 1, 2012
Base Figure:ML Mister Sinister/Omega Red
Height:6.00 inches
In 1985 Coleco released a line of action figures called Sectaurs: Warriors Of Symbion. The premise was that, "somewhere in space, somewhere in time," a genetic experiment failed on the planet Symbion, which resulted in the inhabitants taking on the characteristics of insects and arachnids. The peaceful Shining Realm Of Prosperon was in direct conflict with the Dark Domain of Synax over possession of The Hyves, fortresses of an ancient civilization holding the key to ultimate power. General Spidrax was the cruel and hideous leader of the armies of The Dark Domain.
I was addicted to this toy-line when I was a kid, and had a complete collection of Sectaurs. Man, I could seriously kick myself for not hanging on to all of the toys I had when I was growing up! Oh well, that's one of the many cool things about the art of customizing, is that you can make any toy that you want, and make it the way you would have wanted it as a kid. Although, I'll admit that the lack of articulation and sorry sculpts on 80s toys actually appeals to me, in a nostalgic kind of way.
Anyway, this guy was made using a ML Mister Sinister body, which was completely broken down and sanded/painted from the inside out. This is a pain in the butt but it is totally worth the peace of mind I get not having to worry about paint rub or any of the original paint peeking out from inside joints or hard to reach places. I shaved down Mr. Sinister's crazy giraffe neck and replaced the disc joint with a magnet. Also hair was sculpted onto the arms and legs using Aves Fix-It. I used a slightly re-sculpted Omega Red's head and implanted rare earth magnets underneath it. The helmet was cobbled together using parts from a Sota Now Playing Nightmare Demon and a McFarlane Little Miss Muffet spider. His neck armor was co-opted from a MOTUC Trap-Jaw. Spidrax's harness was made using parts from a Playmates TMNT Leonardo, McFarlane's Alice Cooper, and holsters from Playmates D!ck Tracy line. His Slazor (dagger) is from a MOTUC Evil Lyn. The Skall Shield is a Skeleton Warriors Arachnia accessory. His twin Venguns are from McFarlane Angela figures (I think). Not sure about the venom whip and spiders. The harness/belt is also removable.
Happy New Years everybody and special thanks goes out to all my fellow Realmers who have taken the time to comment on my work. I really appreciate the support and general sense of comraderie that the Figure Realm provides. Cheers my friends.

where does the kicking line start because I need to get in also! I sold all my great mid 70's and early 80's toys too around 1982-83. My Megos, Star Wars, Shogun Warriors, Micronuats...you name it it makes me sick thinking about it. This custom is beautiful and I really like these flashbacks to yesteryear homages you are doing...PLEASE DON'T STOP!

You're killin' me Freddie! Ha thanks for the compliments bro - sorry I totally meant to contact you about working on a project together but it slipped my mind due to traveling/family/holiday stuff. Anyway, I shot you an email dude - maybe we could do a collaboration and give the proceeds to charity!

Ok, now you've got yourself a little problem, because A) I DEMAND that you make more, nay, ALL the Sectaur characters, and B) you set the bar incredibly high on your first go, so now I expect perfection with every last one!! You're doomed, DOOMED, I SAY!!

Seriously though, this is awesome. One of my long term figure plans was to do a full set of Sectaurs one day. But if you can build at this quality, I'd rather see them from you instead. Well done!

HOLY $%&*! *runs and hides*
Ha! Seriously I've thought about it man, that's a lotta work bro! It's not beyond the scope of possibility though, I've got about 50 WIPs I'm in a no holds barred hardcore death match with that I've got to try to pin down first...but don't let me hold you back amigo, I'd like to see the Sectaurs get the Batman1016 treatment dude! Mahalo brother!

Like I said, LONG term. I've got a lot of MOTU and Metroid to work on. Plus at least one other series that I'm planning on starting in the next month or so (give you a hint: indie comic robot assassin . . . it's gonna be SWEET, brother-trucker!). So yeah, Sectaurs will have to wait, I suppose.

Nice! I have a vintage Spidrax that I picked up a few years back on my shelf, but he's loose and doesn't have his steed or weapons or anything. You can't beat having the one you had as a kid dude, I'm envious! Actually I get a lot of ideas for customs by just looking around at my vintage collection, and seeing what needs to get done! Thanks and Aloha!

From reading the description, it looks like you threw everything but the kitchen sink into making this masterpiece and, yet, it came out so harmoniously perfect.
A sign of a true master.
Thanks for taking me back. I do remember the Sectaurs.
Way to go!
