This character was never released in America, and is widely considered to be one of the rarest mass produced action figures ever made. It is a "Holy Grail" figure for collectors (like myself) who are zany enough to pop for the Chester Gould artwork-inspired D!ck Tracy line released by Playmates in 1990. I didn't care for the movie much, but I LOVE the artwork of Chester Gould and particularly his character designs for prohibition era gangster villains. The artist who sculpted these toys in support of the movie obviously referenced the original Gould art as inspiration and I thank him/her for it, because those are some awesome looking toys, although they are extremely goofy, which fits the source material perfectly. I suspect it was the same person who sculpted the awesome Toxic Crusader and TMNT lines from that early 90s era as well.
Anyway, the only way I was ever going to own this figure and complete my set of D!ck Tracy villains without spending hundreds of dollars was to make one myself. It's a pretty simple custom. I dremeled the face off of a D!ck Tracy and re-sculpted the visage of The Blank with Aves fix-it. I also dremeled off his badge and a pair of handcuffs he had hanging off of his belt. Even though I don't ever intend to display him without his trench coat and thus would never see the cuffs/badge, it would still bother me for some reason to know that they are there so I went the extra mile and got rid of them anyway. The trench coat is a mego-esque tuxedo jacket from CTVT. Everything else was a simple re-paint. Thanks for looking and have a nice day!
