Laluhns are large dragonfly-like insects that can potentially be encountered in Atlus' 1994 Megami Tensei Gaiden: Rasuto Baiburu (Reincarnation of The Goddess Side Story: Last Bible) Sega Game Gear video game. Said title is an upgraded rendition (full color graphics, new enemy sprites, etc.) of the original gray-scale Gameboy version released in 1992. Last Bible was also ported to the Gameboy Color in 1999 (without the Game Gear enhancements), which is also the only time that it was ever translated into English and released in North America (re-named Revelations: The Demon Slayer.) In the Gameboy versions, Laluhn is depicted as a strange hybrid organism (it appears to be a combination of pig, bird, fly, and fish to me), but, the fluttering fiend's form is far less ambiguous in its Game Gear incarnation (regardless of appearance, the monster still functions the same in combat.) Like most of the creatures in the game, Laluhns can potentially be recruited into your party by (carefully) negotiating with them during a battle, or you might spontaneously create one by fusing two other monsters together with Kishe's "Combine" spell.

While not nearly as dangerous as many of the other horrors roaming the world, Laluhns can still prove to be a nuisance, particularly for inexperienced adventurers. This giant-sized bug typically buzzes about in circles around its intended prey, harassing them with bites from its sharp mandibles or lashes from the trio of whip-like tails that make up its abdomen. A Laluhn can also invoke the "Geo" spell; this creates a huge positive charge in the earth directly beneath the target, which, in turn, causes lightning to be discharged from the sky above in response. Needless to say, the resulting bolt of energy electrocutes the victim on impact.

Laluhns are difficult to harm in battle. The creature's airborne mobility makes it an elusive target and its writhing tails only complicate matters further. In addition to discouraging close quarters combat, the flailing, tentacle-like appendages often deflect incoming projectiles away from the insect's relatively fragile wings and body. If it feels particularly threatened, the chitinous critter can also cast the spell of "Defense Up", which magically, albeit temporarily, enhances the durability of the Laluhn, and any allies it may have, significantly reducing the severity of any injuries they sustain during the ensuing fight.

Materials:
Newsprint, tissue paper, white glue, wire twist ties, transparent plastic, ink, gloss nail polish, super glue, and acrylic paint.

Dimensions:
10.5 cm/4.1 in. x 10.1 cm/4.0 in. (widest point x highest point)

Articulation:
From the beginning, it was my intent to make this particular figure static, but, due to the flexible nature of the wires I used during their construction, the six legs, and, to a lesser extent, the three tails, are all bendable.

Time:
Three days: September 14, 15, and 17 (2011). I spent the first day sculpting the insect's body/legs/tails/head. The second day was devoted to fabricating and painting/inking the wings. On the third day, I touched up the sculpt, painted the completed figure, and permanently attached the wings. I didn't actually glue the figure to a stand until the 18th, but, that only took a few minutes anyway.
