You got a point about religion and it promoting hatred of other religions/cultures
Both Christianity and Islam have been highly guilty of this
But Religion is not the root cause as its a set of good living guidelines
Its MAN
he has twisted religion to suit his own ends and it is MAN that interprets that religion in whatever way he sees fit to commit all kinds of atrocities
I have personal expereince of seeing the catholic church "got to" by the money men - when that happens they break their vows in not treating all people equally under God...
God exists but we've yet to really hear his true voice as our Free Will leads us inevitably towards our doom by following idiotic leaders...

Besides the caretaker in 'The Shining', I don't know who Grady is...LOL... Anyway Greymonk, I don't want to offend anyone- I know that statement I made could be inflamatory. But, being an iconoclastic artist as I am, sometimes my work is motivated by my personal beliefs. I suppose I could be wrong about god; I guess I'll find out the truth IF I was mistaken, but I'll never know if I was right- because I'll be too busy being dead to realize I was right. Here's a thought to consider: How many wars and how much hatred would end, if all belief in god ended instantly?... If religion disappeared over night, all the GOOD things that come from it- wouldn't have to.

Punstarr, you need to rent ZARDOZ as soon as you can lay your hands on it. Then you will understand. As for WHY I bothered to make this figure, the reason has to do with my conviction that the church (and religion in general) has been exploiting, controling and even killing the masses for thousands of years, and encouraging its followers to do the same to the 'non-believers'- and in the movie, this character (named ZED) is doing just that- killing for his 'god'. But then, Zed discovers that his 'god' is a fake, because he reads a book called 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz', in which of course, the Wizard is a fraud. Just rent the film...

Only if you smoke it
Its great for relieving eye and body joint pain
And knowing Zardoz as I do - There probably was a small plantation in each loaf - but if it it was Mowie Wowie - everyone would be too mellowed to fight
That was War shrooms in the loafs

Thanks for the insight Paul, but I was making a joke about the bread containing marijuana...LOL... (which tends to make the eyes red as well.)

LOL your question hjas an easy answer
Food Coloring - a SFX artists best friend back in the day
Chris Lee when he played dracula never wore contact lenses when he had his "bloodhot" vision look - the instead eyedropped a solution of red food coloring into his eyes
that mad look he famously had in his blood engorged, glistening eyes was real discomfort - not bloodlust - unless it was for the sfx artist who dropped the food coloring into his eyes
Great accessories tho andrew - superb detail work!!!!

I don't want to give an overload of pictures, but here are two more. I just wanted to show all ZED's accessories together. I baked him a couple loaves of the famous 'green bread', so Zed will be nourished and strong enough to kill everyone. Back in 1974 when the film was being made, I wonder what the GREEN ingredient was in the dough???

Here's a couple shots of tZED's pistol. The first picture shows an actual Webley-Fosbury .445 automatic revolver. The next picture shows the 1:6 scale Sideshow toy gun, before and after my alterations.

Thanks again for the good comments. To answer Carlos' question- I got the civil war saber from a web-based company called 'The Toy Soldier Brigade', and I got the horse from a company called 'The Battle Rhino', also on the web; the horse is made by Dragon toys. It originally came with a black mane and tail, so I had to replace them with brown ones. Also, I did the paint job on the head and front leg, and I made the fur saddle blanket, braided rains, bit and bridal with leather, from scratch. I made the spear by hand, but I did buy the rifle and saber as-is. The pistol is a story unto itself: I found a Sideshow figure from X-Files; 'Frank Black' which came with a Webley mk5 revolver. But, ZED's character has an older model, when the gun company's name was Webley-Fosbury. So, I had to convert the pistol to an older, different model, with many changes. I even fabricated a new cylinder, with the correct zig-zag pattern. The resulting pistol is now a 1902 Webley-Fosbury automatic .445 revolver, the exact model used by ZED. I also bought a brown Indiana Jones leather bullwhip, which I changed, made much longer, and dyed black. (It's a strange coincidence- Indy also weilds a Webley revolver and a whip, like ZED, and Sean Connery plays his father... Spooky!) Anyway, some other details: When I got the Hot Toys Rambo muscle-body, I had to make the waist larger to match Connery's. It was tricky, but I managed to cut into the rubber from below the belt, and stuff the belly and waist with some filler. That way, the waist matches the hips, instead of being a 'tiny toned waist' lake Rambo had. (???) And, I used the Hot Toys 'Rocky Balboa muscle pants- new version' to cover the legs, add thickness to them, and to hide the exposed hip joints which would have been visible under the red 'bakini bottom'. That's why I wasn't able to paint hair on the upper legs- because they are rubber, and they need to remain flexible to mount ZED on his horse. So, no hair- YET. AND- I wanted to make a 1:6 scale copy of the soft-cover book 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' as an accessory. So, I looked at the movie, and reproduced the cover in Photoshop. Then, I printed out the image on card stock, and made a movie-accurate miniature book. That way, ZED can read the truth about ZARDOZ, and he can flip-out and kill everybody.

That is one amazing figure. One of the best I have seen in a long time. Where did you get the sword? How did you paint the body hair? I remember the film long time ago and when I saw this figure there was no doubt who the character was. Amazing work. I envy your talent. Where did you get the horse?

Thanks guys. I had fun doing this- but about the hair: I went for the paint option, yes. But, the acrylic paint would rub off the rubber quite easily, so I had to coat over it with super-glue, then paint a matt finish over the shinyness of the glue. That is why I didn't put hair on the arms and legs. They have to retain their flexibility, so they can't be coated with super-glue. The chest does not need any flexability, so the glue was not a problem. I'm still thinking about options for putting hair on the arms and legs, but it will have to be a different technique than the chest. Adding any color or hair to a flexable rubber is a big problem. The onlt way I can think of at the moment, is to use silicone rubber that has been pigmented black, and apply it wet to the surface like paint. When I decide the perfect solution it will be done. Anyway, glad you like it- and I'll be posting some more pictures here in the forum later, of the horse and other accessories...

Hahaha I remember this film
Superb work Andrew - absolutely brilliant my friend
I see you went for the paint chest wig look for connery rather than the glue and sprnkled hair I suggested
one thing tho - connery is a total hairy bad person and his hairyness doesn't end at his chest
his legs and arms are also very hairy
But this is an awesome detailed custom regardless - Kudos mate
