R'ook was tortured for 20 years by his own father whipped and prodded pushed and shoved all because his mother had died giving birth to him. Upon escaping a thanks to a Green Lanterns accidental intervention he tried to assimilate to a normal life. His therapist took kindly to him and he fell in love. But he was unaware that she was in love with another and soon to be married. Finally one day he had the nerve to ask her out and he accidentally spilled his guts about how he felt about her. She tried to explain that though she cared for him her heart belonged to another. This barb was more than his fragile mind could handle all the punishment he had received at his fathers hand hurt nothing like this. at that moment a red ring crashed through the window and landed upon his finger. The outcome was grisly it took three days for the media to realize what had happened to the city all that was known is a red ball of energy had decimated every living thing in its boundaries. The only sign was a symbol of a game piece over and over drawn in blood, a rook from the planets chess game. R'ook was born!
