The King of Gonzo, a true doctor of journalism, and an icon of literature: Hunter S. Thompson.
The recipe for the doctor was simple. I had a few leftover Gotham City Thugs (I make a lot of guys in suits) and sanded down the head until all that was left was the ears and chin and a smooth head. I then sculpted on his face, complete with aviator shades and a cigarette (in his trademark Targard filter) and then got to making some accessories. Pictured are his removable white driving bucket hat made from a Plan-B soldier's helmet, a fly swatter (also from a Plan-B accessory), beer cans (Hellboy), a gun from The Comedian and a hand sculpted Vegas visor. Not pictured, a grapefruit and hunting knife, some suitcases and newspapers (if anyone knows where to get a nice to-scale typewriter, please post in comments).
As for his outfit, the shirt and pants are based on his white slacks and red Acapulco shirt from the "Bat Country" opening of the film (as most props and outfits used by Depp were given to him from Thompson himself). The jacket was just a last minute decision. I made the famous striped jacket of his, but it looked stupid when he wasn't wearing his short shorts, so I went through pictures but couldn't find one I liked. I just opted on making a sort of generic seventies style jacket (I own that jacket, as it were) and it turned out well. I'm considering making a Raoul Duke figure, based on a mixture of photos of Thompson from around 1971 and Depp's portrayal of the figure (probably in the famous jacket and shorts) but this is based on Hunter S. Thompson himself.

Man, I put many hours into a couple of Dr. Gonzo and Raoul Duke characters, but was never satisfied with the results. Yours looks great though. If you are interested, and you ever want to sell it in a package, PM me. I did some GI Joe style blistercards for the figures that I am very happy with and would love to see them in action.

Revisionist: I was going to actually use the Bill Murray movie master head but I opted instead on an original sculpt. I look forward to see how you do yours.

As your attorney, I'd advise you to take a sip from the little brown bottle in my shaving kit…. you won't need much, just a taste ...

Dude, that's awesome… I've got a Hunter S. in progress. I started it a while ago but this is a direct hit… very good. I had nearly thought of going Bill Murray, but Any Hunter is a good Hunter. TELL ME ABOUT THE FU@
