Torpedo Fist (Big Jim's P.A.C.K.) Custom Action Figure
The next character in my Mego-styled Big Jim's P.A.C.K. experiment is Torpedo Fist! Torpedo Fist is one of only three characters (the others being Big Jim and Zorak) in this line that had a comic strip on the back of his box that explained his origin. Apparently he lost his arm fighting a shark off Ceylon, where he was a contract ex-Navy pilot, flying in medical supplies. He was rescued by Matara fishermen, who said TF was still shaking his one good fist at the sharks as they pulled him over the side of their boat. In Madras he was outfitted with a new arm and soon after became the official pilot and air intelligence officer of the P.A.C.K. From the box art: "One minute: He's strong and silent. The Next: His fist strikes like lightning! Torpedo Fist - Man with a dynamite arm! Fist with a dynamite reach!" Torpedo Fist was made using a re-strung CTVT male body and an Astronaut head (this head is a re-cast of the vintage Planet Of The Apes Astronaut). All of his clothes are CTVT. His cap was made from re-fabricating two different hats. His eye-patch was sculpted with Aves Apoxie. His arm was made using a weapon from a GI Joe ROC accessory and his fist (which is removable) is from a Big Guy figure. In my imagination TF's hand actually fires off of his gauntlet like a missile, much like the old school Shogun Warriors. The vintage figure had a thinner prosthetic, but I decided to beef up his appearance a little bit with an appendage that looks like it could do some real damage! A couple of my friends have told me that it looks too much like he's wearing The Right Hand Of Doom, and it kind of does but I defend the aesthetic by explaining that Torpedo Fist pre-dates Hellboy by probably twenty years. *shrugs* Anyway, thanks for looking!
