Completing my trio of Super Joes (I think technically there was a 4th human member called "Super Joe," but I did not own him or know of his existence as a child so I have no nostalgic investment in him or the variant African American Commander for this series) is tactical unit The Shield. "Tactical Unit" in this case meaning a politically correct term for the word ROBOT. Unlike his colleague and fellow android Luminos The Shield is a full size machine. Not only does this lend itself to a certain C-3PO/R2D2-Abbot/Costello-esque quality of interaction between the AIs, but it also makes sense from a functional standpoint. He's called The Shield. This is the "guy" that stands in front of The Commander when the Super Joes rush into battle. I imagine that he takes a lot of damage this way and has to be re-built quite often. Yet somehow through it all The Shield has maintained a distinct personality that is unique to him, even though he has been completely overhauled several times and has no original parts. This leads to many unintentionally hilarious statements of an esoteric nature, as The Shield tries to comprehend "life" through the eyes of a being that relates to it on a completely different level than any human entity.
One thing that I did not like about the vintage toy was that his shield was permanently attached to his arm, and his arm was bent at the elbow in a fixed position. So here it is, 30 something years later and I can finally sleep at night because I've remedied the situation. The Shield can put his shield down and use his arm like a regular toy now (*audience explodes into applause*)! I used a vintage head/torso piece and attached it to a generic CTVT male body, which was painted with Model Masters Acryl and sealed with Mod Podge. The CTVT body was also re-strung to give it a better fluidity of motion. The Shield's shield was taken from a TRU He-Man and the boots were swiped from a re-issued Star Trek Andorian and painted black. Thanks for looking and also I am humbled and grateful towards those of you who have taken the time to comment on my previous work. Thanks very much.

Amazing work - I was just wondering if anyone had done the Super Joes, the Big Jims, the Pulsars, the Electromans, and other 70s larger characters in an updated style. Have you ever considered doing these in JLU style? If so, email me - I'd love to talk to you about them!
