Initially, it was hinted that at the end of the film "PREDATORS", Arnold would appear to Adrian Brody's character, decked out in Predator armor, having commandeered a ship. Sadly, that never came to pass in the film. This is my vision of how Dutch from "Predator" would appear if he'd combined military equipment with scavenged Predator armor/trophies. Everything would be retrofitted together, meshing the alien technology with US Military clothing using buckles & straps. Recipe: ML Loki (Torso/upper arms) NECA PREDATORS (armor - much of it dremmeled off the figures sculpt, flexible armor & lower arm bracers) NECA Jonah Hex (holster/gun & neck) Japanese import Jin-Roh figure (thigh-armor, modified) McFarlane Reach figure (Knife) Various McFarlane military fodder (pouches, straps) ML Blade (some pouches) NECA T2 Arnie (gloved hands) NECA (Mezco?) Resident Evil Hunk (SWAT-style strap back piece) NECA AvP2 Wolf Predator (Mask, modified) NECA COG solider (original & a headcast - both heavily recut/resculpted) Meczo Heroes Future Hiro (Boots) [orig. Mezco HB Liz boots in the WiP shots - changed out later on) Wrestling Figure (pelvis/legs/knees/part of lower legs) NECA Pitfighter Conan (Arnie's face, with washes and paint touch-ups) NECA Army of Two Rios (Assault Rifle + a Punisher Mag) McFarlane AvP Mini Predator (back predator battery 'hump') x6 Neonium Magnets x2 Canadian Pennies that have nickle content in them (making them magnetic) Aves Apoxie Sculpt (Both Black and White types) Points of interest: Interchangeable heads! By keeping a ball/socket neck, but shaving down the head & gluing magnets to that - I created a super articulated, magnetic head system. Later, I used Black Aves Sculpt to sculpt around the fake inner 'head'/magnets. Since there would be very little room left in the head(s) otherwise, I used a penny with high Nickle content in each removable head. The magnet attracts to it, and it saves on space. The connection is really secure. I embedded two magnets below the SWAT-style back piece (integrated with the Predator back-armor), and one in the large gun, making it attach without visible means. The Halo-Reach knife also slots firmly into a recess I created, held in by tension and the loop of strap above it. The shoulder-mounted gun was attached using a finishing-nail, anchoring into the back Predator armor 'hump' area. I also carved out the guns ball joint to increase it's range of motion. Painting: Arnie went though two different color schemes before I was happy with the overall look. Initially, it was silver corroded armor with gray fatigues, but it looked too washed out. So, given Dutch's army-green look in the film, and the P1 Predator's copper clored armor - I used those instead. Painted with Tamiya Gunmetal/silver & various Greens. To achieve the weathered finish, I used MIG pigments & fixative, then Vallejo paints to bring out detail. Sealed with liquid type Krazy Glue & Vallejo Matte finish varnish. I worked on this figure off/on while I was overseas teaching last year, and finally found the right pair of military style boots to finish it. Hope you enjoy this guy - he looks fantastic displayed using a McFarlane T3 crashed helicopter base (from the T3 boxset): "Get to the Choppah!" ;) ![]() |
