Naruto again and again no backstory due to it being that long. This custom was more of a suprise then anything else. While browsing online one day I found a cool looking picture of the First and Second Hokage's in this cool looking battle armor, looking more like real life samurai then their anime armor. To make a long story short, I have on my list to make both in that armor, both going to use legolas as a base. Anyhow, after doing another trade with good ol Hawkeye, I ended up with a nice Legolas figure. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it until it hit me I could try to make a younger Third Hokage following the color scheme and tone of the picture I found. Unfortunetly, the idea got lost in the mix and was put off for another day. Recently though I, by the recommendations of the the site members here, bought a box of Super Sculpey to try out. Wanting to test it out first and see how well It worked, I figured what the heck, pulled that almost forgotten Legolas out and decided to use him as a test dummy(I doubt he would have been used for anything else) Needless to say, the end result was quite a suprise to me, I think its one of my best works! I've got three thanks to add. One to GJ for giving me tips on the Sculpey(this stuff is now easily my favorite to use), one to Hawkeye for the figure and last but not least to ratboy for tossing my suggestions and feedback during the design phase. More work was done here then you would believe. First off was his back. The original Legolas featured this large sacklike object that was meant to hold his arrows and swords. Thinking it was gawdy I tried to remove only to figure out the sucker was really on there. After an hour of two of cursing(and slicing open my thumb) I got the thing off...only to leave on chunks of rubber. Another half an hour of dremeling down the chucks I had his back finally clean and flat. One part I didn't get and it was too close to his belt so I sculpted on a small pouch to cover it, then painted it grey. The second biggest change was his hair. I pulled off the original hair and COMPLETLY resculpted it. Every one of those little spikes was handsculpted and attached. One of the biggest shocks was the hair, easily one of the best I've done yet. Next part was a complete paintjob. Everything but the skin was repainted. His bodysuit was painted a gloss blue and the outer suit and gauntlets painted a flat black, along with his hair. The eye tattoos were done with a rolling ball pen and came out much better then they would have with a toothpick. Through all of the changes and scultping, the body still retains ALL od its articulation and still has his striking action. Not a bad days work LOL ![]() |
