Okay well, I like DBZ as much as the next guy, but ironically not for the Sayjins (didn't even bother to look up how to spell it) except Brolly but everybody likes him. Anyways One of my favorites has always been Tien. He's been around for a while but later in the series when the animation got better he didn't show up as much, and when he did it was usually just to stall the bad guys an episode or two to keep them at bay. Anyways he's one of my faves but sadly there's no figures of him that are any where close to the quality of Marvel Legends. So I decided upon myself to to give it a shot. I have no talent for art at all but I love action figures so I did my home work and used some fodder I had lying around the house, except for the head. In all it cost about 13 dollars to make the most expensive part was the head. The paint I had from other stuff. Base: Mortal Kombat Deception Series 1 Action Figure Baraka. I found this figure at a used electronic discount store toy bin. (a great place for fodder). Only cost me two bucks the figure was useless as Baraka as he was missing a hand and the claws were gone. The vest comes off fairly easy. Had to dremel down the boots and sand them. Arms: Batman Begins movie masters. Say Wha?? yeah I live near a Mattel store so They had a huge backstock of these guys and were discounting em for like 2 bucks each. The orginal Baraka arms were double jointed but inverse? and wouldn't work So I popped em off and Bat's easily popped on I didn't even have to boil them in hot water they just snapped right in place I did dremel a little bi around the ball joint to help with rub, but I need more practice. Sash: took out some scissors and cut up a Dark Phoneix Jean Grey coat. wrapped around his hips and locktited it in place. Boot Cuffs: Tien's got some really big boots on in the cartoons but Baraka's not so much. I used knee pads from a Mark Henry figure a bud of mine gave me. Head: Tien Mini Big Head Figure version. This was the last Piece to the puzzle. I found the head last at a Sci Fi expo. I've been searching for a Tien DBZ figure for about two months. They're online but I did not want to throw down the 40 bucks for the cost of the JAKKS figure from back in the day. Seriously the last vendor I went to at the con that day had about three loose old school figures up on his display. I asked if he had any more and he said sure, then pulled out a box full of little itty bitty DBZ figuriens. But they had GIANT heads. Me and wife digged through that box for about 5 minutes and finally after all that we pulled ONE single Head. The dude didn't even know who Tien was. Anyways 5 bucks, had to boil the head in hot water to pry it apart from it's base, but that didn't work and eventually I snapped the head off wit the neck still stuck down inside the head. My wife had the idea to drill in a screw that I was eventually able to pry out, but it was pain. Still had to drill a big ol hole in the bottom so the head would fit over the huge Baraka peg, and finally... PRESTO! TRI-BEAM ATTACK is ready. I got many bottles of paint so I can't narrow down each color and brand I used, but they weren't anything special. I used a lil cheap kraft brush, clear coated with Krylon spray and that about does it!! Comments appreciated but be gentle boys this is my first time out. ![]() |
