Grey King was a synthetic copy of a mutant educator named Addison Falk, created by Cerebro. He is a member of Cerebro's X-Men.

Grey King is a super-intelligent specialized telepath who can neutralize mutant powers. He is also a telekinetic who can move, lift, and manipulate very large objects with his thoughts. When he employs his telekinesis he manifests a Phoenix-like firebird effect. Grey King also wore a Phoenix-like costume and had red hair. Cerebro patterned the Grey King after the mutant power template of Jean Grey, and the personality template of Magneto (who had once forged an alliance with that same organization. The Grey King was designed after Jean Grey and Sebastian Shaw (the black king). His name is meant to be a pun Jean's surname and Shaw's alias of the Black King.
