Nazo is kind of an official character, but he has no backstory. Nazo only appeared very briefly at the end of the Sonic X promo trailer, and since then there has been a TON of fan speculation about what he actually is. The only official picture of him doesn't show his feet, so I got the shoe design from the newgrounds movie "Nazo Unleashed." The character is almost a strait up Supersonic repaint, but I made the new wing-like back spines out of polymer clay.
