As this is my first custom submission, I'll introduce myself; I'm Zac, 20 yrs old and still addicted to action figures and X-MEN. Albeit my figure collecting slowed down significantly over the past 5 years, I've always dreamed of having a complete set of X-MEN blue and gold teammates in comic-true costumes. When Marvel Legends hit the shelves quite some years ago, I was dissappointed with the selection, so never got fully involved; however, years later, the characters range has gotten rather broad...but still not fully inclusive.
Being a poor art student, I scraped together $6 here and there to get my set started, I presently own: No Marvel Legends figures :( but XMC Wolverine (with 'fixed' shoulder pads and a custom sculpted lower back) Cyclops, and Archangel (with 'fixed' wings, no longer the missile jumppack that stuck an inch off his back) Unfortunately, expenses for school keep me slow going, and also prohibited me from using a Legends figure as a base for this custom, but upon completion I truly feel this was a better base, as with Jubilee, always portrayed as a teenager SCALE was the most important issue in creating a believable model. Rooting through the old box of misfit toys, I came upon April O'Neil, who to this day I've no recollection of purchasing, and also a 1995-era poorly articulated and sculpted Invisible Woman (Spider-Woman repaint style). The Body and head of miss O'Neil were stripped of detail and I began my sculpt, using X-MEN reference pictures galore to maintain accuracy. I took artistic license on the hair, as I've seen many (both custom and vintage) that just don't capture Jube's wild demeanor, going for a simple, but not neat flow. The body was sanded clean and the breast-flap was constructed, along with the breast emblem, with Games-Workshop 'Greenstuff' (also used on the hair) I then took sliced up rubber bands for use as clasps and boot flaps. The Glasses were constructed from .5mm plasticard, primed, then adhered to the forehead. The coat was taken directly from the 'Gen-X' Jubilee figure, the arms and gloves (the Yellow gloves still aren't sitting right with me, but I fear paint wear if I repaint them blue) The Coat sleeves were dremeled out completely and fitted around miss O'Neil's biceps in order for a nice flesh transition between the gloves and sleeves. A wash of orange-brown ink was applied over all yellow parts to maintain marvel legends coherency. Regardless of articulation issues, this figure fits in very well with my fledgling collection, and even better I'm certain once I get some Legends in the mix. Upcoming Customs Include: Forge, Bishop, Psylocke, and changes to Phoenix (cartoon- yellow Jim Lee style outfit, sans ponytail look from cartoon)as well as a repaint version of storm (Gold Leader era white outfit), and a Gold HoverChair for the Professor. Thanks for looking, Comments incredibly appreciated! ![]() |
