Another classic showdown! Don't imagine they'll be coming out with a bearded Thor anytime soon, so made this one in the Marvel Universe scale. The base is a DC Bizarro, with boots from a Van Helsing figure. Sculpted the rest of the details and added a silk cape.
Saw a Surtur custom a while back done by Calley of Cal's Customs. He used a Dark Alliance Lucifer as base, and ever since then has become the standard Surtur copied over and over. Gotta admit, it is a perfect base, but then again, it's not much of a stretch to use a Lucifer figure for another fiery demon. So decided to switch it up and use the Wendigo instead. It works just as well, it even has some great fur detail sculpted over which kinda resembles flames.
During the painting process, tried to paint flame effects by twisting the brush over the figure. Using ample amounts of paint, and rolling the brush in a swift movement, it created patterns that looked like flames licking across the monster's body. Felt this was visually more interesting than just painting it straight red. Additional sculpt work was done to build the huge fireball over his head and around the waist. The Sword of Doom came from a 12" Lady Death, repainted. Next in the Versus series, Wolverine!
