Can't get enough of Alex Ross comic art lately! Didn't like it at first, gotta admit, but have since become really fond of the way he draws - in terms of style and pop aesthetic. His art is instantly recognizable, drawing faces that have a sense of 50's nostalgia with a touch of realism. A perfect combination of golden age comics with a modern approach to drawing figure proportions. He gives each frame lots of visual impact, allowing the reader to view impossible perspectives, and "feel" the heights reached by heroes. Wanted to pack some punch with this Ms. Marvel, giving her an athletic build, but also go more sexy. With big, wind-blown hair, sculpted from apoxie, also using tails from toy horses. Looked at a few ref pics of hot blondes and tried to capture that bedroom look for the eyes. Changed the boots to high-heels and resculpted the boobs, (cuz boobs can either make or break a custom - just ask any boobmeister!). Muscle-wise, the JLA Supes was a perfecto base for the Sub-Mariner. Pimped out the arms from DC Aquaman (for the regal armbands), and feet from a UFC figure. Added wingtips cut from clamshell (less likely to chip or breakoff) and sculpted some ears. Painted his speedos with some high-gloss turquoise car paint to give it that sequin effect. Ross uses lots of rich, vibrant colors in his artwork, so needed to add a few extra layers of paint on the figures to really bring out the sharpness. Many thanks for checking this out! ![]() |
