Lana Lang as Insect Queen from DC's glorious Silver Age. Lana saved a bug-alien's life, and he gave her a "bio-ring" that let her assume insect forms and powers. (See it sparkling on her hand in the inset?) She worked with Superboy a few times and even earned an honorary membership in the Legion of Super-Heroes, despite that her powers were not inherent. Lana is some Star Trek female with white putty hair. The toughest part was building her bosom, which had to be torn down and refit as a modest teen rack. Try getting those puppies symmetrical and even! The praying mantis is from a old movie monsters set where it terrorized a warehouse. Her gauzy wings, part of the costume she made herself, are plastic sheet with clear Liquid Nails droozled on to mark veins. And it just occurred to me I left off the stupid ring. My sweetie thinks the figure is so wicked creepy it will give her nightmares. Insect Queen was cuter in the comics. And now out of continuity. 5 inches.

An interesting version of the Insect Queen. I really like your use of the mantis parts! I applaud your effort to adjust her chest, it's not easy. Nice job!

Great figure. I love classic Silver and Bronze Age Superboy stuff. I'm trying to do an Insect Queen figure myself (Lana in just her costume before transforming) using a DC Universe Classics Donna Troy figure and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Darla head. What did you use to create Lana's mask? Need some assistance myself on this one.

The mask is just plastic card. I marked where her eyes were with mechanical pencil above and below, then cut the card to mask shape (but not eyeholes), then bent by hand and glued on. THEN I cut the eye holes with tiny cuts so I could line up with her eyes. Remember she's small: like 3.75 inches, so very thin card was OK.
