This is the ToyBiz troll that should have been... I love the troll at the very end of Return Of The King so much, I just had to make one. First I prepared the body; I stripped off the Battle Troll armor, patched the hole in the chest where the original chest plate was. Next, I ground down the head a bit, so the helmet would fit. Then I made the loin cloth, sash, and completely new gums and teeth. Making the armor was the big challenge; I wanted it to be perfect, so I did lots of research; I looked at the film of course, but I also looked at the WETA statue. I found out that they are a little different from each other. The body armor in the movie looked almost like leather- king of flat, thin and brownish-gray. The body armor on the Weta statue looked like steel or iron, and was a bit thicker, and more detailed. So, I mixed the best features of both into one. I made all the add-on pieces from Sculpey Superflex, including an extra left hand, so the troll can hold his mace or be displayed with that hand open. Making the gauntlets required a lot of research to get the detail correct, but it worked out fine. Making the helmet was fun, but VERY tricky. I covered the head with tin foil, then sculpted one section of the helmet onto it. I removed the tin foil carefully, then baked the first piece while it was still on the tin foil. After it was cooled, I placed it back on the head, then sculpted the next section. That way, sculpting the next part would not damage the first one- and so on, until all the sections were complete. After all the sections of the helmet were sculpted and baked, I used my Dremmel grinder to make the edges smooth, and the curves just right. Because the helm was sculpted right over the head, it fit perfectly when it was all done. I textured all the surfaces of the armor with the Dremmel too, to give a beaten-metal look. I added real metal chains to the armor shoulders and at both sides of the waist. Finally, I made a new mace, and the wicked looking sword, and the extra hand. I painted everything with a special kind of acrylic. I decided that since I had done so much work on the Mordor Troll Chieftain, that it needed to have a box with complete box art too- so I created a box that perfectly fits with the ToyBiz packaging style. Since I can only upload a maximum of four photos with each custom, I will include the box art with some pictures of accesories (battle troll hammer and club, troll chieftain helmet and extra hand) in a seperate upload. I hope you all like the finished item!

Please wait...

Very much so. A disappointing thing to happen to such a cool figure but I guess it can't really be helped now. Shortly after I got mine I saw how bad the face really was done: another figure sitting at TRU had its face completly pulled off, apparently they didn't realize that such a thin skin wouldn't stand up to the normal 8 year old's destruction
Since you have the Cave troll, have you had either of the two either Doc?
Over time(and the use of the actions) the face on mine has begun to tear and has ripped along the face in many places(like small cuts). Not sure if it was the temperature, play or the action, its just begun to rip.
Again, nice custom though, you did a kickin job!!!
High quality stuff mate
DUUUUUDE! YOU MADE THIS!? You'd get like a bajillion dollars for this at aucton!!!
I just got the normal cave troll and would LOVE to armor it up, but geez, anythig I do to it would only pale in comparison to this thing D: Maybe some original Nightmare armor
But darn, what's your main job? Graphic artist? Picasso?

Great work!!!
