Hello fine customizing folks, here for your consideration in this contest is my Legendary Rider, the monster slaying anime hero Vampire Hunter D and his cybernetic steed. Practically all my youth I’ve been watching anime and not noticed it, titles like Astro Boy, Speed Racer, Robotech, Mazinger z, and much more, but it wasn’t until had seen the 1985 Vampire Hunter D movie by Streamline pictures on some cable network that I was wowed by a “cartoon” with it’s fantastic animation, interesting characters, and the fact that adult themes were not spared or covered up because it was a “cartoon”. So since the movie and character made a big impact on me, and the company made action figure based on the character were little more than statues I would make a multiposable Vampire Hunter D custom and what’s a cool dark swordsman figure without his steed, so because of this contest I made his cyborg horse too. Vampire Hunter D is based off the books written by Hideyuki Kikuchi and his look was created by Yoshitaka Amano, character designer of the earlier Final Fantasy games. There are 19 books in the Vampire Hunter D line and 2 movies thus far. Vampire Hunter D is set in a post apocalyptic future where humans almost destroyed themselves in atomic warfare and in the aftermath vampires or nobles rose up and became the masters of the human race. The world is tech based, science based, and magic based with outrageous characters and monsters for the hero D to interact with. D is a dhampir, half vampire and half human like a certain Marvel Character; D can walk in the sun for short periods of time and while the handsome mysterious stranger that is the persona of D doesn’t say much he has growing out of his left palm a wise cracking talking sentient symbiote that has saved D’s rump on more than one occasion. This custom feature multiple points of articulation, his long sword and sheath, a removable pegged symbiote for his left hand, a torch accessory, and his removable trademark hat.
D was customized from a HML Black costume Spiderman, a Stargate female head, ML Moon Knight cape, parts from the Yamoto Vampire Hunter D figure, and some sculpting.
D’s horse was made from a LOTR Ringwraith horse with lots of sculpting.
