If you haven’t seen Spartacus Blood and Sand, DO IT!!! If you like the 300 or Rome, or wondered what it would be like if they mated and had a lovechild, this is the show for you! I had to make this. I was never going to touch my L.C.B.H. Conan, but he had to be my Spartacus! I took a really long time to put this guy together, and to tell you the truth, I think it was because I didn’t want to be finished. I’m really happy with how Spartacus turned out, and I hope you enjoy him too! Recipe L.C.B.H. Conan: Torso, arms to elbows, hands, and GROIN! Clash of the Titians movie Perceus: Head (with minor reworking), and wristbands Unknown Matel Wrestler: Forearms. Unknown TNA Wrestler: Legs. Weapons: Sheild- Modified DC Direct Harkgirl Metal gladius sword: McFarlane Conan Put it together, with a lot of paint, a lot of love, a bunch of time, and I have my SPARTACUS!!! I was going to spray him down with blood, but I think I might make a separate accessory, A BLOOD SPRAYING SWORD!!! Then you can bloody up your figures to your hearts content. Besides which, Spartacus isn't always covered in blood during the show that's usually only about fifteen minutes of time per episode. Items of note: Belt: I kept Conan’s belt because I thought it would look like the many belts you see in the show depicting different images or even dioramas embossed in leather. So I treated it with some dry brush love after giving it a brown base coat. I’m happy with the result, and I think it worked out. Helmet: Gladiator Hulk’s fitted with a plastic visor and face plate. I matched the original helmet’s colour. Then dry brushed the layers of metallic coats, so the helmet would look aged by the original paint peeking through. It also works REALLY well scale wise! Wooden Gladius (the famous sword from which the word Gladiator was derived): Carved from a thin splint painted dark and sanded to age it further exaggerated by different colours of dry brushed brown-sandy. Galerus (Shoulder guard) and Straps: McFarlane Tyr, reworked and painted to look like leather. I again dry brushed them to get a mottled effect of leather and the wearing/dirt. Fascia (Protective leg padding): Material, with fodder for the ties and bindings, treated with a ploy resin I made to protect it (it keeps motion) and make it into a more plastic sturdiness to keep its shape. Then I painted it and treated it with different dry brushed layers to give it a dirtied up feeling. I also used the poly resin I made to protect the purple/burgundy strap Spartacus wears that bares the scent of his wife. I didn’t want it to be just a piece of scrap material that thin, and easily ripped. This way the strap too is durable, and it will hold the shapes you pose it in. I have Crixus and Theokoles almost finished so get ready to collect the Whole set! Thanks for the view! Hmmmmmm… I think this is an internet first here too. *GRIN* ![]() |

I'm really happy with how this turned out, and I will try to get the others from my Blood and Sand "series" done as soon as possible!!! Theokoles is the closest, and I am working on him even now... well not exactly right now, I'm waiting for some sculpting to dry. As for Crixus, I want to use one of those new Mattel Batista wrestling figure's head, but I haven't got my hands on one yet! (boo-urns!)
I can't believe some I the names I see in my Spartacus forums that I rush to see what they have posted. I find this makes me want to work even harder to raise the bar of my work.
Thanks again!
Man I want to do an 80's toy commercial for this!
"Spartacus Blood and Sand Action Playset comes as shown, figures sold separately!"
Good likeness and great attention to detail - very well done!
Love all the accessories.
I'd buy it, that's for sure.
But thanks a lot for the post because I'm a HUGE fan of your work! Especially your Venture Bros stuff!
