Now we come to the third life stage of the Metroid Species, and we're starting to see some drastic physiological changes. Presenting the sixth in my second series of Metroid figures, the Gamma Metroid!

Unlike the Alpha, the Gamma Metroid shows real development over the original larva. In addition to compound eyes, larger tusks, and heavier armor, the Gamma Metroid has opposable gripping arms that allow it to walk on the ground in addition to it's natural ability to float. This will become necessary, as the next form is too large to fly on its own power, so the creature has to learn early. Furthermore, the new evolution is capable of attacking using bolts of static electricity, giving it expanded range and making it more dangerous than ever!

Finally, more than just putty work! To create the Gamma's legs and body, I took two Legendary Comic Book Heroes Judge Death figures, cut off the upper torsos, removed the heads, and glued the torsos bottom to bottom. Then I sculpted over every inch of the figure using Crayola Model Magic paper clay and Loctite Epoxy Putty. Finally, the central brain, computer wires for the neurostalks, another rubber glitter ball, and a full paint job, and the next metamorphosis was complete!

I like this Metroid's spidery design. It's nasty, insectoid, and dangerous looking. Full size, I would definitely not want to run into this guy in a dark cave on an alien world, that's for sure! Of course, his older brothers, they're a WHOLE new level of nasty! But they'll have to wait for another day.

See you next mission!

Actually, I just haven't gotten around to it. I planned to, but it's a backseat idea for now. Plus, the shell is made from Crayola Model Magic paper clay instead of Loctite Epoxy Putty. It takes longer to dry, and has more the consistency of hard styrofoam when it does. I didn't want to risk the flight stand tearing through the shell due to the weaker material.

Was there a reason you didn't use a ML stand to simulate flight for this one like you did with the Alpha/Gamma? Too heavy? Without one, your photos give the impression that it's a crawling creature when they fly just like all the other Metroid forms except the Queen.

Heh, no lightning. I don't have any lightning bolt fodder on hand, and I don't have the funds right now to go out and buy an Emperor Palpatine figure or some such other figure. I'll make one eventually. There's a couple of accessories I've made for other figures that I haven't posted, like Samus' morph ball or the Energy Tank. Just little stuff.

I think this is the best one out of the various Metroid maturation stages you've done to date. No lightning attachment accessory?
