Okay, here comes the first figure in my series of conjectural characters based upon the premise that what if another Golden Age hero other than Superman was given a teenage superhero career? So, using that idea as my basis (as well as some of the ideas presented in Bob Rozakis‘ “Secret History of the AA Universe“), I came up with Kid Lantern.

To do this figure, I first took a DC Direct Crisis on Infinite Earths Series 3 Earth-Prime Superboy figure and, using the boil and pop method, completely disassembled the figure. Next, I used my Dremel to remove the figure’s spit curl, cape, belt, and trunks. Next, I used my Exacto to trim down his forearms a bit to accommodate the new hands, which I took from a DC Direct First Appearance Green Lantern (using Milliput, I attached the new hands and gently sanded to make the new forearms seamless and smooth). Next, I used a bit of Milliput to create the belt and new boot tops. With the Milliput now dry, I sanded the belt and boots smooth, and then commenced a full repaint with Testors Model Masters Guards red for the boots, arms, and chest, Testors Model Masters Slime Green for the pants, Testors Model Masters Flat Black for the belt, and Testors Model Masters Auric Silver for the belt buckle. Once the paint had completely dried, I gave the arms, torso, and legs two coats of Testors Model Masters Flat Clear. Next, with the Flat Clear now dry, I reattached the legs and arms to the torso and set the figure aside.

Next, I used a small batch of Milliput to reshape the hair and create the mask on the figure's face. When the Milliput had finally dried, I repainted the hair with Testors Model Masters Cadmium Yellow and the mask with Testors Acryl Plum. When the paint had dried, I gave the entire head two coats of Flat Clear, and then reattached the head to the figure once the flat Clear had completely dried. Next, I drilled a 3/4" x 3/4" square hole in the figure‘s back and one 1/8" groove on eack shoulder. With the hole and the grooves properly shaped, I glued a trimmed down DC Direct Trinity Series 1 Ra's al Ghul cape that I had previously repainted with Testors Model Masters Ogre Green for the inside and Testors Acryl Plum for the outside and two generous coats of Flat Clear to match the cape worn by the Alan Scott Green Lantern. Lastly, I glued a new chest symbol to the figure that resembled the design used in Bob Rozakis’ “Secret History of the AA Universe” as the design for a 1980’s Green Lantern (the symbol was made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size) and the two stripes on each boot, and TA-DA...Kid Lantern!!!
