Greetings fellow lifeforms! I'm back with another custom Metroid figure! Today's hero: Commander Adam Malkovich! No, we're not talking about the prolific and talented actor. That's JOHN Malkovich. This is Adam. Yeah, I know what you're saying, "Who the @#$% is that?" Well, for your information, Adam Malkovich was Samus Aran's commander when she was enlisted in the Galactic Federation Space Army, before she became a freelance bounty hunter. Though he's been mentioned in games (specifically Metroid Fusion), and appeared in the mangas, he has yet to make his official in-game appearance . . . at least, until June, when Metroid: Other M releases! This figure is based on his appearance in that game. Yeah, you read that right: I built a figure of a character no one has ever seen, from a game that hasn't released yet. How? Well, fortunately, Cmdr. Malkovich makes several VERY brief appearances in the three pre-release trailers Nintendo has unveiled at various trade shows over the past year. As a result, I've gotten a pretty good look at almost every angle of the character. And since he's such an important part of Metroid history, I felt he'd be a perfect addition to the series. That he was fairly easy to make was just a bonus. The Dark Knight Gotham Thug is essentially just a guy in a suit. A little sculpting, and a suit is easily converted into a military uniform. I cut a wide strip from a rubber cape (some random figure, don't remember who) to make the knee-length bottom of the coat, since the thug's coat wasn't long enough. The head came from, I believe, a Marvel Legends Wonder Man figure. The gold trim on the central chest piece and hat was made using basic action figure twist ties. The chair was made from Marvel Legends Professor Xavier's wheelchair. The pistol and holster came from a Marvel Legends Punisher from the Nemesis wave. Yes, I know he doesn't have a pistol in the screenshot, but my philosophy on figures is, they're still toys, they should have at least a few accessories, so long as those accessories make sense. Also, I am aware Adam has a patch on his arm in the screenshot. However, that's the only aspect of his uniform I couldn't find a clear picture of. When the game comes out, I'll add it then. All in all, not bad for a character that hasn't officially gone public yet! See you next mission! ![]() |
