I created this figure as a gift for my brother, Chris. However, I was bothered by the limited articulation in the hips, and freakishly long thighs that effect most FF Play Arts figures. :::: Recipe: -Final Fantasy 'Play Arts' Crisis Core Cloud Stryfe (modified thighs, repainted, sealed) -Final Fantasy: Advent Children (Head/hair) -HML Ares BAF Sword (repainted and sealed this + kneepads and shoulder pads with Krazy Glue & Vallejo matte varnish for a harsh metallic effect) -NECA Pirates of the Caribbean Skeleton belt/shash (heavily cut down/repositioned/painted) Most of the work associated with this project was changing the figures height by giving Cloud the leg length of a normal human being. I cut almost a 1/2 inch out of each leg, but maintained both the leg swivel and knee articulation. Afterward giving Cloud surgery, I sculpted over and filled in each with Aves sculpt, and let it cure for a day. I knew the Aves wouldn't be strong enough to hold on it's own, so I forcibly 'broke' the section of Aves out (which took the shape of the surrounding plastic on both sides), then using Gel-type superglued, glued it back in. Later (while wearing a vapor mask) I drilled into each side of each leg. To reinforce each the leg, I super glued lengths of paperclip and finishing nails to act as rebar. Once everything was set and assembled, I sculpted over each transitional area, and dremmeled it down to match the rest of the figure. The rest of the work involved painting, dry brushing, and using a sepia toned wash/dry brush on Clouds hair. :: Added note: I had a display at the Fan Expo 2009 Comic/Anime/Horror/etc. convention in Toronto, Canada between August 28-30th. As part of the gift to my brother, Chris, I had an artist from the booth next door (Rob Tari from "Nexus Studios") draw a picture of my custom Cloud Stryfe using the figure as a reference. I've attached the image below (with permission granted from Rob). Hope you enjoy the figure as much as I did customizing it. :) Cheers, -Blayne ![]() |

Good eye - I actually forgot that I swapped the head on this figure with the FF:AC Cloud head! I've since given all my Final Fantasy:Play Arts figure to my brother Chris, so it totally slipped my mind that the figure started with a chibi-style head (it now exists on a FF:AC Body, which looks cool in it's own way).
I'm happy with how the figure turned out - I have a shot of him next to a 6" scale ML figure (another of my customs - my Edward Scsissorhands) to show scale that I'll be posting to my website soon.
As for your question RE: When are the other customs being posted? Soon.
A lot of them I actually didn't have photographed before the convention! Eek. I sold one or two that still don't have photos taken of them too. Ah well. I've shot pictures of about 5 of the 12 that are new, and those will be posted to Figure Realm over the next week or so.
Thanks for your interest, critique, and praise.
Actually, that Cloud head is from Advent Children which has realistic looking models. From VIII and on (not including IX using chibis and all) they all used realistic proportions and faces have full noses and lips, but with animeish looking hair. I hope I'm not coming off as bashing him or anything because like I said, I really like his work. PAs are 1/8 scale rather than 1/12th like ML so I was just saying them being 8-9"s makes sense. The AC Cloud's head is a bit smaller than the other PAs (he's non scaled) so it didn't look as off anyways as if using say a CC Cloud head, or Zack head, Squall, etc.
I'm really glad you liked the display. I sold enough to break even on the table cost, which was cool. It was my first time at a convention as an exhibitor. Hopefully I'll be there in following years too.

It was nice to see the customizers representing in Canada. Have you had a table in previous years?
by the by awesome cloud!
I'm really happy with how the metallic effect turned out - by using a really large, scraggley brush (actually an old kindergarten painting brush from my father's old classroom) to apply the silver effect on top of the gunmetal, it added a great effect.
Also - when I applied the Krazy Glue superglue to the shoulderpads, I placed one near a sanding sponge which left a plasma-burn like effect on one shoulder. I resealed the area, and added some rust effects. Sometimes accidents add detail.
I'm sure cloud would appreciate being de-castrated, oh yeah good job still
