Foot Bomballoon Automated (and decidedly low-budget) creations of The Shredder--Foot Bomballoons flutter unsteadily through the air, pausing only to drop their deadly loads down upon the heads of unwary terrapins. They are but one of many unpleasant surprises the TMNT will have to deal with in Konami's 1990 Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game. If he moves swiftly enough, a turtle can dodge the plummeting shell before it makes impact and detonates, or, more daringly, strike and destroy the explosive and/or balloon in mid-air, neutralizing the threat altogether. Once a Bomballoon drops its one-and-only shell, hit or miss, it becomes little more than a minor annoyance as it has no other offensive capabilities; even the greenest (pun intended) adventurer can swat it out of the sky with little trouble in such a state. However, these units tend to be deployed in groups, and, as a result, can deliver a carpet-style bombing blitz, when clustered together, that is difficult to evade unscathed. Materials: Newsprint, Kleenex, white paper, white/hot glue, wire twist ties, and acrylic paint. Dimensions*: 6.1 cm/2.4 in. x 4.9 cm/1.9 in. (widest point x highest point) (* Maximum wing span and claw closed without bomb.) Articulation: Four points: Wings (2) and claw (2). Time: Two days; May 17 and 24, 2009 (I got caught up playing some new video games which is why there's such a large gap between the two dates). ![]() |
