This diorama was SUPER fun to make! It was made by attaching two large pieces of cardboard to one another. I carefully covered the whole thing with spackle. I tried to distribute it evenly to prevent buckling. Real dirt was used to cover the spackle. The fallen pillars are white candles that I cut and dirtied up a little bit. The crumbling stone walls are styro-foam that was ripped apart and painted. I made the trees out of dead twigs in my backyard. I decided that there needed to be something on the right side to balance things out. A large piece of decorative fish tank stone did the trick. I used Spanish moss and dirt clods to bring the look together. One of the neatest things about the diorama is the false bottom in the center. First I set the whole diorama on top of styro-foam blocks to raise it off of the ground. Then I cut a large hole in the center and put an aluminum trough inside. Now it can be filled up with dirt to conceal a figure or just to create an uneven terrain. The background was made by spray painting a large piece of display cardboard. I used different shades of black and grey to create a cloud effect. The whole diorama measures 3' 1/2" by 2'. The best part is that it looks good with anyone! Also, I apologize about some of the pictures. The diorama is so huge that I couldn't help but get some other stuff in the picture with it :) I REALLY hope you enjoy this diorama as I put many hours into it! ![]() |
