Character: Sgt. Smasher was introduced by the GI Joe Collectors’ Club as a replacement for Sgt. Slaughter. Design: The GIJCC figure looked like what could have been a Sgt. Slaughter figure from the neck down. This makes sense as the character was basically a substitution. I considered doing an ARAH Sgt. Slaughter body repaint. But this is NOT Sgt. Slaughter, so I altered the looked to give the character more individuality. Although I do enjoy working with NS parts, there are times when the bad sculpting on them is sneaky. In this case, the legs (used for a driver Duke, Rollbar, and SAW Viper) have laughably undersized feet/boots. I could have drawn attention away from this by painting them with the same blue as the shirt, but I wanted to follow the colors as placed by the GI Joe Collectors’ Club. So the black paint makes is painfully obvious that the size of them is wrong. There was also a NS Beachhead with tiny feet/boots. In that case, I’ve found that they’re good to add to DCIH female bodies, as the boots were otherwise well sculpted. Had I noticed the issue here, I would have replaced them with larger boots, but I caught it too late. On the plus side, the tiny feet make the hands look even larger, which gives Sgt. Smasher some personality. Colors & Paints: Based on the GIJCC figure, which used a Slaughter’s Marauders color set. Sculpting & Modifying: The head is cast, with a sculpted Mohawk added. The chest/back is lifted up to correct the proportions, with epoxy sculpted around a “spine”. The thigh screw insets are also epoxy smoothed. Thanks for looking. ![]() |
