I wanted to make a leader for my modern Iron Grenadiers. Initially I wanted to do a classic Voltar, a Caucasian with a black pirate beard but I realized that the COBRA forces did not have a black person in their chain of command (apart from a Cobra Officer Python Patrol ). And since I took liberties with regard to IG, why not also change the ethnic origins of Voltar, his original pet and his entire origin story. Also, the colors of the original Voltar being gold and purple, I decided that my modern Voltar would be bling with pistols and a gold Kalashnikov and some small touches of purple. And I reproduced the story of Charles Taylor, a real African war criminal (Sometimes reality goes further than fiction). I kept black beard.

Voltar is a Liberian warlord, accused of the worst abuses in his native country andSierra Leone. He alone symbolizes the military chaos of Africa. Little known to the general public, he is nevertheless one of the main actors in a series of conflicts which have plunged West Africa into horror. His "feats of arms" or, more precisely, his abuses quickly attracted the attention of Destro who recruited him and placed him at the head of his Iron Grenadiers.

Born in a wealthy suburb of Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, to a black American father and a Liberian mother, both deceased, he studied economics at Bentley College (Massachusetts) and, returning home , join the Liberian army. A nickname is then given to him: “Voltar” or deformed vulture, for his annoying tendency to keep a significant part of the money that passes through his hands. After a few years of dealing with poachers, smugglers and slavers, thus building a solid network, and having reached the rank of colonel, the Liberian president accused him of having embezzled 900,000 dollars. Voltar then took refuge in Sierra Leone with some of his men, where he participated with his small band of fighters in one of the most atrocious civil wars on the African continent. The conflict sees several rival factions clash. And <voltar's faction is one of the most feared. And for good reason: its fighters, often drugged, are accused of killings, mutilations, rapes and even cannibalism. It is in this context that Voltar is approached and recruited by Destro. At the same time, Voltar is recognized as having fueled arms and diamond trafficking with the rebels. Destro makes him commander-in-chief of the Iron Grenadiers and then sends him to Libya, where Voltar and his IGs fuel the civil war by supplying weapons and militarily advising both sides in the conflict at the same time.
Today, Voltar is the armed wing of Destro, directing all IG operations throughout the African continent for arms and diamond trafficking and internationally where its fields of action extend from Central America, with links established with Mexican narco-cartels as far as Central Asia and opium trafficking.
