During a recent move I found these figs in a box. They're some of my earliest customs, done sometime in 2002. They're the first that I tried doing some sculpting on (mostly on Beast). I used Sculpey back then and after a few years the "cured" Sculpey cracked on its own and flaked off so they're no longer displayable. They were also the first customs I ever put on the web to show to others. The site that hosted the images crashed and pics of them no longer exist on the web so I figure I'll put them here for nostalgia and safekeeping. Though they're old and crude customs by today's standards, they still hold a special place in my heart since I considered them my first successful attempts at customizing.

The inspiration for these came from a couple of drawings I saw on the web of X-men designs by Alex Ross. He had color in his designs but when I first came upon them I saw them in black and white and loved the stark contrast. I veered off of his original designs slightly since I only saw two of his drawings, but all creative credit goes to him for his wonderful original designs. These were done on mostly DC Direct figures since I wasn't advanced enough to customize full-articulated figures yet. They wouldn't really work or have the same impact on an articulated figure anyway since any posing other than neutral would break up the big X motif on the bodies.

The lady next to Havok is Polaris by the way. From feedback when I first posted them, some thought it was supposed to be Kitty Pryde because of the brown hair. My reasoning to changing her hair color was I didn't want to introduce a bright color into the palette, and I figured that Polaris would dye her hair another color anyway because of being teased for her green hair as a kid by other kids, and because having green hair isn't going to be good for concealing your secret identity. And besides, her X motif is positive above and negative below, like magnetic polarity...c'mon. Lol.

I'm pretty sure it's canon that Polaris DID dye her hair to hide the green. Awesome work here
