Occasionally I get the urge to do Lego style customs, they're just so different that it's fun to try them out. I've had these minifigures for years, I think they were Mega Blocks, but they came from a weird Viking/Knight vs dragon line. Obviously they aren't official Lego figures, but in terms of knockoff Legos, they are actually sized appropriately, have just about the same movement (they only miss the wrist movement), same body parts are interchangeable and they fit on Lego tiles and pieces, so they're actually pretty flexible. In any case, I saw the figures and immediately decided to do some Star Wars theme figures. They really reminded me of the EU and Old Republic style Jedi-the ones who were actively fighting wars against the Sith and wore much more armor and were geared more towards warfare than the more recognized robes. These weren't terribly hard figures. For the most part, the base figures were great, good detail on the sculpt, good color, they could hold Lego weapons and the lightsabers from official Lego lines were already made and fit well. All the work came mainly in detailing the base figures-basically breaking up the SOLID GOLD AND NOTHING BUT base color. Not hard, just tedious and small detailed. It was a good balance between wanting to give the figures more detail, but also trying to keep that Jedi look of conformity. After I did that, the figures were given a light black wash and then sealed. Again, not super hard figures, but I'm really pleased with them. I think their unique bases set them apart from traditional Lego minis, but because they actually fit on Lego pieces well, they can fit into Lego Star Wars collections really well. ![]() |
