Peace is a lie. There is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken Darth Bane was born as Dessel on the Outer Rim mining planet of Apatros. Raised by a poor miner, Dessel worked in the mines himself until a fight during a card game led to the death of a Republic ensign and Dessel was forced to flee off world to become a foot soldier for the Brotherhood of Darkness. As a member of the Gloom Walkers, his force sensitivity was identified, and he was sent to be trained at the Sith Academy on the planet Korriban and rechristened with the name Bane, as his father often called him a "bane to his existence". Bane grew to despise the Brotherhood which he saw as weak and with their power too spread out. Disgusted by their tactics, he left for the planet Lehon where he discovered the Holocron of Darth Revan which led him to believe in the Rule of Two. "Two there should be. No more, no less. One to embody power, the other to crave it." ―Darth Bane With this new knowledge in hand Bane helped direct the Order toward producing a Thought Bomb that would lead to their destruction alongside the Jedi Order they had been fighting against. In the wake of this destruction, Bane came across a small child who Force powers he had sensed when she had used them to kill a couple Jedi who had slain her friend. Bane took the child with him to be his apprentice, and thus, a new Sith Order was born. I've been wanting to make a Darth Bane for a while, but it took some time to figure out the proper parts. I liked versions I had seen others do using the ML Odin torso as it had a cool armored look to it once it was toned down a bit, but the Odin limbs made Bane way too big to fit in a Black Series lineup. Bane is listed as 6'6", and while this version is still a tad taller than Vader (who is supposedly 7'0"), he is a little bit closer to being in scale, at least in so far that I can live with. Unfortunately, to use smaller limbs, I had to crack the torso open and use some moldable plastic to make the shoulder pegs of smaller limbs reach long enough into the torso to stay in place while still being fully poseable. With some trial and error, I was finally able to fashion it so that the limbs connect with the inner torso. Besides that, the Odin legs pegs were a pain to remove as well, so that I could attach some smaller legs. Overall, I'm really happy with how he turned out. So with the Odin torso, I used the right arm and legs from an ML Rage figure (which was nice because I didn't have to repaint the legs). The left arm was from an ML Mr. Sinister while the hands came from Nuke. The head came from the ML Epic Heroes Drax which always looked like a perfect fit and had been used in the past by others. The cape I got off eBay as well as the curved lightsaber which was a 3D print I got from a seller named replacementsabers that has a cool assortment of 3D printed hilts. The belt was a combo of the front part of an ML Baron Zemo and a belt from an old Faceoff Red Skull I liked, to connect around the waist since it had a lot of pockets that made the belt look similar to Bane's depiction in the Darkhorse Jedi vs Sith comics. While his hilt is straight in those comics, I liked the curved version that was described in the Bane Trilogy novels, so that's the one I went with along with changing the blade that was purple in the comic, to the more standard Sith red. The shoulder armor came straight from Odin, I just had to refashion them to fit a smaller arm, and then I added some button snaps to it, and to the cape to complete the look. The Holocron was purchased off Shapeways. While the paint job isn't overly complicated, I'm pretty satisfied with how he turned out. Was never a fan of the puka shell armored version of Bane from later in the trilogy nor did I really care for the odd samurai version of Bane that appeared in The Clone Wars cartoon. To me, Bane was like an evil force of nature. The idea of him wearing a mask or indestructible creatures for protection seems a little silly, like the Hulk wearing a helmet for protection. Bane was a blunt object of destruction, so I always thought his Darkhorse depiction seemed most appropriate. But that's just me. Thanks for looking! ![]() |
