So, since I am a big fan of the classic Superboy/Adventures of Superboy TV Series, as well as the TV Tie-In Comic that DC produced back in the 90s, decided that I wanted to do a series of figures based upon the alternate Superboys that appeared in the 1992 Adventures of Superboy comic special. This is the fourth of six alternate Superboys in the series (The last picture I will upload will show the cover of the special with art by Kevin Maguire, the place the issue where this version actually appeared). So, in order to do this figure, I had a bunch of parts from various broken figures that I decided to mix and match together to make him. I started with the lower body from a DC Universe Classics/Signature Super Powers 30th Anniversary Superman figure, which gave a slight repaint to (just the T crotch, the trunk portions of the legs, and the belt loops) with Citadel Imrik Blue followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next I took the torso from a DC Universe Classics Indigo Lantern Atom and popped it apart to accommodate the arms from a DC Universe Classics Hawkman. With the torso popped apart, I filled in the small hole in the center of the chest with a small glob of Milliput which I then sanded smooth, and then gave both the upper portion of the torso as well as the ab crunch a coating with Citadel Imrik Blue, followed by two generous coats of Flat clear. Once the blue and flat Clear were dry, I attached the ab crunch to the lower body, and then reassembled the upper torso with the ab crunch, adding in the shoulders from the Hawkman (gluing these pieces together with some Crazy Glue). Next I gave the neck a slight repaint with some Testors Acryl Peach followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. With the body now reassembled, I needed to create the wristbands on the forearms of the Hawkman's arms, which I did using some Green Stuff. Once the Green Stuff had hardened, I gave the wristbands a once over sanding with some sandpaper to smooth them out, and then applied two coats of Testors Model Masters Guards Red (I used the red to make the wristbands pop a little bit, as the ones in Kevin Maguire's original art were white, which is not a standard Superman costume color, plus I needed to add a bit of red back in considering that he didn't have the red trunks) followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. With the paint on the wristbands now dry, I attached a set of Superman hands from the fodder box and then reattached the arms to the shoulders. With the body now fully assembled, I used some Crazy Glue to attach the cape from a broken DC Universe Classics All Star New 52 Superman which I had previously used a little brush and roller cleaner on to remove the black Superman Insignia. With the cape attached, I needed a proper head, which I found in the fodder box and originally came from a DC Universe Classics Wave 6 Long Haired Superman, and used the boil and pop method to attach it onto the neck ball joint. Lastly, I glued new symbols onto his chest and cape (both symbols were made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size...however, unlike previous hand drawn symbols I had done before, these are drawn to match the symbols worn by the alternate version of Superboy on the cover of the comic special showcased on the final uploaded picture), and TA-DA...one of the alternate Superboys from the 1992 Adventures of Superboy TV Tie-In comic special!!! Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated. ![]() |
