So, since I had already tackled one of my favorite alternate versions of Superman...the Earth-2 Superman, I decided that I should take a stab at one of his more obscure foes, Atoman. Atoman first appeared in comics form in World's Finest Comics #271 (Sept, 1981) and was an adaptation of the character of Heinrich Melch/Henry Miller, the Atom Man from the Adventures of Superman radio show of the 1940's (Atoman is probably one of the first characters from an outside medium [radio/movies/TV] to be transitioned over to comics form, beating out characters like Harley Quinn, Renee Montoya, and Live Wire by a decade).

The figure was a pretty simple custom to do. I took a DC Universe Classics Cat-Man and used my Exacto knife to cut away his utility belt. Next I used the boil and pop method to pop off his head and cap. With the cape removed, I took my Exacto knife and trimmed away the under arm straps, and then gently sanded the interior of the cape where the straps attached smooth. Next, I used my Dremel to sand down the ball joint at the neck into a post. Next, I used a little Brush and Roller Cleaner to remove the clawlike chest emblem. After gently cleaning up the chest with a baby wipe and some paper towels, I commenced a full repaint of the upper torso with Citadel Jokaero Orange and a home brewed shade of flesh tone for his neck, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I popped the T crotch piece apart (it was broken already when I bought the figure) and painted the trunk portions of the legs with Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I took the lower legs from a broken DC Universe Classics Starman figure and swapped the feet out with those of a DC Universe Classics Guardian, following that with a quick repaint of the red sections with the Citadel Jokaero Orange and Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow, followed by two generous coats of Flat clear, and then swapped them with the existing Cat-Man legs. Next, I took the bet from a broken DC Universe Classics Hawkman, which I modded with my Dremel to remove the mace loop, and then gave it a repaint with the Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I took the T crotch piece from the Guardian figure and after popping it open gently, commenced a full repaint in Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I reassembled the body together with a little Crazy Glue. With the body reassembled, I again used the boil and pop method to swap the gloved forearms with those of a DC Universe Classics Superman, which I then repainted with the Citadel Jokaero Orange for the sleeves and the home brewed flesh tone for the hands, followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear. Next, I repainted the Cat-Man cape with Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear and then glued it in place with the Crazy Glue. The next part was going to be a tad more difficult...the head. For the head, I used a Toybiz Marvel Legends hooded Baron Zemo, which I used my Dremel to remove the crown ad hollow it out inside. With the crown removed and the head hollowed out, I jammed a glob of Green Stuff inside the newly formed cavity inside the head and then pushed the neck post into it to create a guide hole. Next, I used a little Tamiya Putty White on the exterior of the head to fill in the groves on the hood, which I then sanded and smoothed with some Sandpaper. With that finished, I gave the head a full repaint with the Testors Model Masters Insignia Yellow followed by two generous coats of Flat Clear, and then glued the head in place atop the neck post. Lastly, I slapped on a new chest symbol with a little glue (the symbol was made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size...however, unlike previous hand drawn symbols I had done before, this one was drawn to approximate the symbol worn by Atoman in the issue of World's Finest), and TA-DA...Atoman, Kryptonite powered foe of the Earth-2 Superman!!!!

Please let me know what you guys think of him, and as always, comments are appreciated.

Cool character, and one that was unknown to me . Great custom. As a suggestion, try to improve focus on taking pictures, as it makes it hard to appreciate the figure!
